Description
Buddy is a mixed-breed Chihuahua. We think he is crossed with either a Maltese, Pomeranian or small terrier breed of some sort. We think he is about 11 years old now. He is a fun energetic crazy little thing who loves having cuddles, belly rubs, and going for walks. He also loves food! Buddy didn't have the best start in life. He was very badly mistreated by his previous owners and we think he was potentially used as a ratting dog on a farm (he likes to chase things!). He was found running stray and my partner took him in 7 years ago. He was malnourished, in a bad way, and an extremely nervous little dog. There was evidence of cigarette burns on Buddy’s body and we do not know the extent of the abuse. Over time Buddy's confidence grew with my partner, they have now been best friends for years but he has always remained very nervous about strangers and animals he does not know. My partner and I have remained living apart for the last year and a half due to me having a young toddler. We are now expecting a baby and at some point, we need to move in together to be a family. Unfortunately having buddy around my daughter and a newborn is a risk that we can't take. After months of supervision and trying to slowly introduce him to my daughter he went to bite her on the hand. We tried our best efforts to ensure everyone's safety but because of his past, we have come to terms with the fact that he can never fully be trusted. Although this has been such a difficult decision for us as we both adore Buddy we have come to terms with the fact that rehoming him is the only option now. We want to find a home with someone who can give him a special life. Preferably with someone who is experienced with nervous dogs and understands that they may potentially be nipped on the hand in the first month of owning him until he gains full trust. Buddy is best walked on the lead, he will ignore some dogs and bark/growl at others. He seems to have a preference for certain sizes/breeds of dogs. He does have some dog friends which has taken a lot of time. He has also been living with a cat at my partner's house who he knew from a kitten. They were friends but he can be protective of his food, he is best fed away from anyone else. At the same time as trying to introduce him to my daughter, we tried to slowly introduce him to my cats but he has continued to chase them off. At this stage, I would say he should live alone to avoid stress for any other pets. He would need to be the only pet in the house to start with and never live with any children. Buddy is not the biggest fan of going to the vet but we will get his health checked before he goes to his new home to make it easier for any potential new owner until trust is gained. Buddy doesn't have any health issues that we are aware of. If you have any questions or would like to come and meet buddy please message me :)
