Astrid is a hound mix, almost 4 years old.
Astrid has a different story to most of the dogs we help. Astrid, along with several other dogs, were ceased from criminals by the police locally to one of the rescues we work with, and of course they stepped in to help the dogs. It was clear from the conditions they were taken from that none of these dogs have had a good life and sadly they’ve now been at the shelter for 3 years.
Astrid is a beautiful young small-medium sized dog (14kg), we think she may have beagle in her hound mix DNA. She is very sociable with other dogs and gets along wonderfully with them. She could live as the only dog in the family or with other dogs in the same home.
She has balanced energy, with moments of sleeping and moments of playing, but in the shelter environment she’s quite an easy going dog who is easy to care for. She loves to be inside the house sleeping, or sunbathing in the garden, she’s very content at home.
She is a very noble dog and affectionate with people. Once she meets you, she doesn’t stop giving you kisses, and loves to be caressed. If you stop giving affection, she gives you her paw until she gets more fuss!
At home she is a wonderful dog, happy, affectionate and loyal to her family. On the street, since she is not yet used to traffic or loud noises, she is fearful, and will need help to overcome this and build her confidence. However, at the moment, she walks well on her lead and does not pull. She loves going in water and travels very well in the car.
