Ruby – 7-Year-Old Cockapoo (Fostered in Gloucestershire)
Ruby is a sweet-natured 7-year-old Cockapoo currently being fostered in an adult home with other dogs.
She came into our care after her owner sadly passed away, having lived on a smallholding alongside her companion, Rolo.
When Ruby and Rolo arrived, their coats were severely matted and caked in mud and faeces, making even the simplest movements uncomfortable.
It took nearly an entire afternoon of careful bathing and grooming—with plenty of breaks to prevent stress—to free them from their painful coats.
We know Ruby has had at least one litter of puppies, and we made the difficult decision to separate her from Rolo, as he was still entire and Ruby was coming into season.

Ruby’s Journey So Far
Understandably, Ruby was very shaken and timid upon arrival. However, after just a week in foster care, she is making small but positive steps forward every day.
She gets along beautifully with other dogs and has formed a strong attachment to her foster dad. Initially, she was quite wary of her foster mum, likely because her first experience in our care involved Steve helping to groom her.
Thankfully, this is slowly changing as she learns to trust.

She travels well in the van and shows much more confidence when exploring a secure field.
She has even had a few happy reunions with Rolo, who is now neutered and still on lead—they are always delighted to see each other.
Indoors, Ruby is very quiet and spends most of her time on the sofa, but each day she is showing small signs of bravery.

At her vet check, she was very well-behaved, and her health was given the all-clear. She has now started her vaccinations.

What Ruby Needs
In an ideal world, Ruby and Rolo would be rehomed together, as they have been bonded since puppyhood. However, we understand this may not be possible.
If they are rehomed separately, Ruby must go to a home with another friendly, similar-aged dog, as she thrives in canine company.
