Description
Name: Banks D.O.B: November 2020 Gender: Male (neutered) Breed: Beagle Size: Small-medium Location: Ayr, Scotland Banks is a beautiful Beagle who sadly found himself in rescue after his family had their second baby and felt they were no longer able to give him the time and attention he needed. Banks is the most perfect little doggo and, although he can be a little shy around new people initially, it is just shyness and he doesn’t have a bad bone in his little body. Sadly he came into rescue with a few undisclosed health issues, but these have now all been dealt with by our vet. Banks had had an operation for cherry eye as a puppy, but this was unsuccessful and the condition reappeared three weeks later. For some reason this was not dealt with again and when Banks arrived with us his eye was very sticky and sore. We have now had the gland permanently removed (as opposed to stitched in), so it will not return again and we also had the vet carry out a tear flow test to find out the reason for his sticky sore eye. This showed him to have dry eye, which is very easy to deal with moving forwards and he will just need a lubricating gel put in the affected eye twice a day. Banks also arrived with a nearly constant head shake which was being caused by a very itchy, untreated yeast infection. Whilst under sedation we had our vet flush out and treat his ears with a long lasting gel and he is already showing a massive improvement. Bank suffered from SRMA (Steroid Responsive Meningitis) as a pup, but is now in perfect health and, with his eye and ears now sorted, he’s ready to move on and live his best life in a home that can give him the love and attention he deserves. Banks has lived with a very small child (baby to 18 month) and is great with other dogs as you can see from the photos of him playing with Ollie. He is house trained and lead trained and he’s also happy in a crate, if needed. He travels beautifully in the car, was very polite at the vets (despite his obvious discomfort) and has a waggy tail for anyone he meets! Before applying to adopt Banks, please read the information below to ensure you are able to meet the needs of his breed:“Beagles make very good family pets, but they may not be well-suited to households where people spend long periods away from home. Beagles are loyal, affectionate, and love to be involved in what's going on around them. Beagles are also very social and people-oriented, and they may not be happy living alone or in the yard by themselves. They like to be part of the family and may want to be on your lap while you watch TV or in your room while you sleep. If you have another beagle, that can also help keep them company. Beagles are also very active dogs with a lot of energy and stamina, so they may suit families with an active lifestyle who enjoy the outdoors. They need plenty of exercise and a garden with a sturdy fence to keep them safe. Beagles are also master escapists, so you should make sure your garden is completely escape proof” We will be looking for an active home for Banks or a home where someone is about most of the time. He can (and would love to) live with another dog, but can also be an only pet. Banks is up to date with vaccinations and flea and worming and is castrated and microchipped. If you feel you can offer Banks the home he deserves, please pop on to our website and complete a pre-adoption application form ( https://www.savingandrehomingstrays.org/dog-application-form) (Please note a homecheck and adoption donation of £500 applies). Thank you!
