๐ RBU, post-adoption support, and 4 weeks of free PetPlan insurance provided upon adoption.
๐ถ Maybe you remember one of our last weekโs emergency UK surrenders โ REX, an 11-month-old Caucasian Shepherd, extra-large puppy (51 kg, may reach 70โ75 kg when mature). This magnificent and powerful breed is known for its strength, loyalty, and gentle affection when properly nurtured. Rexโs family made the difficult decision to part with him due to a childโs allergy, and now this sweet boy urgently needs a safe place to land.
๐ถ He has settled in wonderfully with his fantastic foster family, and after an assessment, we are ready to find him the perfect home.
This is what his foster parents say about him:
โAbout Rex
We fostered Rex from his previous owner, who was in the military and was gifted Rex from a family who had been breeding Caucasian Shepard Dogs since the 1700s. . Rex is therefore well socialised with humans and children, and responds well to men in particular. He has a very good pedigree for the breed and is very handsome. It is clear to us as fosters that Rex was a loved family pet and treated kindly, this shows in his temperament generally.
Rex is currently 11 months old and being a large breed is already very big and growing. He is tall but slim for his breed. He eats well, once or twice a day as he wants, and has taken to good quality kibble with raw / fresh meat, oily fish and vegetables alongside. He was fed raw and wet dog food from his previous owner. We think he could do with filling out a bit as he is quite slim, but he is generally in very good health.
Like all puppies Rex is playful and has lots of energy. He likes a daily walk and a run around. He is bouncy and interested in his surroundings. He is an intelligent and loving dog who likes a brush and a fuss.
He settles very well at night and sleeps through, rarely disturbing in the night.
His toilets are good and he is house trained.
We have other large breed dogs and Rex is keen to make friends with them and be part of the pack. However due to his size and his young age, he is much bigger than one of our other dogs. Rex will walk well on the lead when we are out with the other dog but off the lead at home will go to hump him (usually this behaviour related to stress due to home change and should disappear after fully settled), which leads us to think that Rex will either need time and adjustment to join another existing pack, or would be well suited to be a sole dog in an adult family.
We think that, like all Caucasian Shepherds, Rex is very strong dog, especially as a male, and will be big to handle even for experienced large breed dog owners. For this reason he would be well suited to a โstrongโ person who can manage him physically when out and about, and who has time to give him plenty of walks, training and lots of fuss when at home. He is a loving loyal dog to โhis humanโ and is easy to fuss and brush when settled at home. He has a very big heart.
We have taken Rex to our hearts and hope that he is able to find his perfect forever home with plenty of outdoor space, and a family who are willing to devote time to his physical needs as a very strong breed and his big heart. He will make a wonderful dog for the right person/family.โ
๐ถ REX is not neutered yet. For extra-large breeds vets recommend to neuter at 18 months as earliest. Neuter agreement applies and rescue will require a proof.
