Description
2 adult stick insects included in each sale. These Indian stick insects (Carausius morosus) are at the point of laying eggs (5-7months old). Approx 3 inches/8cm long. Diet: They have been reared on English Ivy (Hedera helix) which is available year round in the UK or can be bought in a pot from garden centres. Adults will find it difficult to change food source but babies hatched from eggs can also eat bramble (blackberry) or Privet but it is not year round in the UK so I find Ivy is best. I cut fresh stems of Ivy and keep them in water in a small narrow necked vase or jam jar. Breeding: Any eggs that are not used for hatching should be frozen for 36 hours before throwing away. Never release into the wild. They make great low maintenance pets but do require egg management to control numbers. Females can lay viable cloned eggs without the need for a male. Sex unknown but 99% are female. Baby sticks can drown easily so make sure the water is covered with plenty of foliage. A paint brush is useful to handle them with as they are very delicate to start with. They do not lay eggs until about 6 months old. Habitat: Plastic reptile terrariums with small air holes or butterfly baskets are perfect to keep them in. Any babies that hatch from eggs are tiny and are best kept in the butterfly basket (shown in image) as they cant escape. Collection or I can post them out in a small plastic box which will contain Ivy for padding and food as well as airholes. Please message for that option which will be £5 extra for postage.
