Description
We have two cute girls that need their forever home. We are currently fostering them as their previous home was struggling with making time for them and their care. They were previously an outside pair but have been with us nearly a month and have been indoor the whole time. We will want the new home to be indoor too. They weren't handled very much before. When they first arrived one of the girls (we call her Salem) would dig at us every time we went near her, neither of them have bitten. She now doesn't dig at us anymore as we have spent quality time together. Her sister (who we call Onyx) is more confident being touched but is still very skittish. Because of this we will want their new home to be able to spend alot of quality time with them and have lots of patience to build up their confidence. They will now eat out of our hands, pellets, salad, apple sticks, dandelion sticks, etc. They have learned that a clicking noise will mean to come here for food. They haven't learned their names so no need to worry if you'd like to change them. They are on Timothy Hay by the company HayBox and they are on Supreme Science Selective Junior Rabbit Food pellets from amazon. They have had: spring greens, basil, parsley, mint, red cabbage, spinach, cucumber, carrot, clovers and strawberry leafs. We haven't given them any fruit yet as it's high in sugar and is usually the hardest for them to process, but they have gotten a taste for quite alot of veg. They have a litter tray with their hay above it. We use Kaytee Clean & Cozy Super Absorbent Paper Bedding for Cages, Hamster, Gerbil, Mice, Rabbit, Guinea Pig, 85 Litre, WhiteKaytee Clean & Cozy Super Absorbent Paper Bedding from amazon for their litter as well as reusable litter pads. They have been doing well at litter training considering they aren't fixed. They have been spraying so are showing signs of territorial behaviour. Once they are fixed and settled though I'm sure that behaviour will stop. When we got them we were told they were around 6 months, we have now had them about one month making them estimated at 7 months old. So they are still babies, still growing into their personality. Onyx is a little bigger and darker than Salem but it is very slight so it is a bit hard to tell them apart, but once you spend more time with them it gets easier. We believe that they are Netherland Dwarf rabbits but aren't 100% sure. They have a very nice soft hair but it molts like crazy so they will need extremely regular grooming, we try and brush them every other day or so. We have found for some reason onyx seems to get hair discharge build up in her eyes. She will let you take it out if her eye. We are not sure why see keeps getting them, we brush her as well has have an air purifier in the room to help too but she does still get them, not as bad but still there. We are going to be incredibly picky who we rehome to as we want to make sure they have a loving, experienced and safe home. That is also why we are asking for money, so that we know that those who want them are willing to and can afford them. We want this to be their LAST home. Following is the criteria for the rehome: One: we will want to know the experience you've had with rabbits. This will include, what breed you had, what age were you when you had them, how long the rabbit lived for, if you've had more then one and anything else you feel is relevant to tell us Two: They have not been fixed, if you take on these girls they will HAVE to be fixed. Up to 80% of unspayed female rabbits before five years of age will get cancer and die very early. Of course I'm unable to force you to get them fixed however, if you are a responsible Rabbit owner you will already have plans to do this, one for health but also to help with litter training. I can however offer that if you do get the girls fixed and show us proof of that we will refund the money you payed for the girls. Three: We will want to see pictures/videos of the rabbits set up. The set up will also have to be ready before the girls arrive. Four: I know it's extreme, however we really want the only best for the girls. We would like that you make a list or paragraph about why you think you would be a good home. It would also be great if you could add facts that you know about rabbits care and/or personality. Five: joined to number four, with their set up. We would also like to see proof for care things for the rabbits e.g : brushes, nail clippers, water bowls NOT water bottles, toys etc Six: that you are happy to give us updates on the girls and their care. Preferably, we would like updates for a few months just so we know they are really settled. Seven: if, for whatever reason, life happends, something changes, and you are unable to take care of the girls anymore we would like for them to be returned back to us. ONLY SERIOUS INTEREST PLEASE NO TIME WASTERS PLEASE

Buyer's checklist for rabbits

1

Be responsible, do your research first

Getting rabbits is a massive commitment, so make sure you have researched all of their general needs, and those specific to their breed fully and have the time and commitment necessary to care for the rabbits. You can read our detailed information guide about rabbits for potential new rabbit owners. If you are looking for a rabbit to keep your rabbit company remember that they will both need to be neutered and that a male / female pair works best. Rabbits are a long term commitment as they can live up to 10 years.

2

Rabbits need a friend and space

Rabbits should never be kept alone, they need the company of other (neutered) rabbits. They need space to stand, hop, jump and run, and safe places for hiding. The absolute minimum space required 24/7 for up to 2 average sized rabbits is area 3m x 2m x 1m high.

3

Health check & welfare

It can be difficult for the average person to check if a rabbit is healthy or not. The seller should be willing to let you take the rabbit to a vet of your choice for a health check and return the pet within 48 hours for a full refund if there are health issues. If the rabbit has already been health checked, make sure you have this documented and phone their vet. Also remember rabbits need to be neutered so that they can live with other rabbits, and vaccinated annually to protect them against myxomatosis and RVHD1 and 2. Register with a rabbit friendly veterinary Practice. We would advise that you read the following article containing rabbit care and welfare information provided by the Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund (RWAF).

4

Report, don’t support!

If you believe a rabbit may be subject to irresponsible breeding, do not “rescue” the rabbit by rehoming it. Walk away and report the seller to us immediately.

5

Rabbits must be 8 weeks when collected

Rabbits must be at least 8 weeks old and fully weaned before they can leave their mothers. Most responsible sellers will keep their rabbits longer than this before they let them go to new homes. Make sure you take some of the food with you so you can change over to your own food gradually.
