Description

Mel - 3-year-old Working Cocker Spaniel Bitch being fostered in Gloucestershire in adult home with other dogs. Mel came from a family home where she had been since a young puppy a very sad decision was made to give her up due to personal reasons that were very geninue and they were not giving Mel the exercise or time she needed for a young working dog. She has been brought up around children with no issues. When Mel arrived, she was a bit worried to begin with and can be quite shy with new people and a bit barky, wary of the new dogs but not for very long as you can see from the videos. Very excited and happy to be in our care, typical crazy excited Spaniel once she realised everything was ok https://youtube.com/shorts/TZdKvPMIWhI?si=kLP28M6xm7Y5fG5W Meeting Lucy for the first time https://youtube.com/shorts/J_PPDRtmVxI?si=SBv4p3GH3aX-jlK5 The first few days in foster we are not going to lie she was a pain, she was like a whirlwind, annoying all the dogs, finding it hard to relax, partly stress, partly lack of excercise so very slowly as the week progressed she started to come down, she became more relaxed around the house, not as annoying with the other dogs. Mel has a lovely temperament with people once she knows you and is very friendly, she loves other dogs but as we have mentioned she can be annoying and very over the top with her play and excitement but this is starting to settle. She has been used to living as an only dog but has adapted well to living with 4 dogs she shows no jealously and will happily lay with them. The only issue we have had is when she is eating her food, she will guard it from the other dogs so she is fed separately. She is not like it with people or with having treats with the other dogs just her bowl of food for breakfast and dinner. With her foster family dogs https://youtube.com/shorts/8gv5X2Xm0pM?si=5qm4nDYgyKYGrCQT Check up at the Vets such a good girly At the Vets such a good girly https://youtube.com/shorts/xJO6xoh6Usk?si=e9vWBfb_a2mSS0Jl She is fully house trained, has had basic training and been taught tricks. She travels well in the van with no issues. She is quite strong on her lead so we have been walking her on a figure of eight which works well. She has been let off the lead and as you can imagine she will cover some ground we have a tracker on her so have the evidence. Her recall needs work but again I think because where she has not been exercised properly and she is still getting rid of all this pent up energy and excitement she will improve, she does come back and its important she gets a home where they are able to meet her exercise needs and it's a safe environment she is not a walk around the park dog. Walking on a figure of eight https://youtu.be/UH_Fe70VCBQ?si=utH_4UkRDgIVhTge At the secure field https://youtube.com/shorts/3pAa2vdiFb4?si=RUO-G6Rmlfl834f5 https://youtube.com/shorts/BQtmQulqFAY?si=cmIzluZCYNFXWx0Z Off lead for the first time over the woods https://youtube.com/shorts/flXI0rGoSuQ?si=Gx7wgltiYlnBO_JH I think we have covered most things, we will update her profile as she progresses with her foster family but it will be restricted for a bit as she just been spayed so on restricted excercise for the next 10 days. So summing up Mel - she could go to a family home but with children who are dog savvy 10 plus would be ideal as not so easy for her to knock them over when she gets excited, someone looking for a new best friend in the country so she can have safe off lead walks, someone who understands Working Cockers and can stimulate her brain as well as her exercise needs, someone who loves walking, someone who wants a sport dog either scent work, agility, flyball etc. Crazy little Spaniel https://youtube.com/shorts/x_IoHGy6YE0?si=pbXa8U2jLY_BEMqU She could live with other dogs but please note above her over the top play and guarding her breakfast and tea while she eats it from the other dogs not people. She is a lovely dog with a lovely nature but typical Working Cocker and needs a home that understands the breed. Lola has now been spayed, started her vaccinations, been flea/wormed, chipped and health checked by our vets with no issues. Please email us in the first instance for our questionnaire so we can find out all about you so able to tell if you are a good match for her.
