Description
Meet Pineapple 🩷 he's a large Miortic shepherd type cross, he is 6 years old. He is fostered in South Shields Tyne and Wear
If you follow our page, you will see the love we have for the long term dogs of Botosani. Pineapple is another one of those special dogs.
He was always in the background of our trips, with his crazy fur and long sticky up dreadlocks, which earned him his name. He went to the shelter as a shy pup, and as so many sadly do, he got more shy as the years went on, 6 years later he was deemed just another untouchable dog. We decided to at least attempt to give him a hair cut, to get that heavy, dirty hair out of his eyes, so he could at least see, and what we found underneath was a gentle, sweet, submissive boy. After his pen mate left, he was placed with a very dominant dog who wouldn't let him eat, he was heartbreakingly emaciated and the decision was made to get him out urgently.
He's in our care now, and he's still shy but gaining confidence daily, his cheeky, funny nature is emerging. He still shys away from fuss, but relaxs into it quickly when it's given and always looks to me for comfort when he's worried.
He walks gently on the lead, he loves nothing more than a slow sniffy walk, he's got 6 years of sniffs to make up for and he is making the most of it! 🥰
It's been a joy to watch him rediscovered life, he's a big gangly clutz who is still learning, he loves doggy company and he can be quite playful with the other dogs.
He's very calm in the house, he loves a big comfy bed and that's where I'll find him 90% of the time.
He was definitely absent the day God was handing brains out, but he's incredibly sweet and funny and deserves an amazing home.
He does not moult, so will need regular grooming and eye trims, he needs to live with another dog and he hasn't been cat tested.
When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness).
It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period.
Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure.
The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm.
Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer.
Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs.
Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a crate.
Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure.
