Description

I don't really use this so I'm not sure why it's put her down as a puppy. Holly came to us on the 18th of april 2023. We believe she was around 3 or 4 months old when she came to us which would make her around two years old today. There's going to be quite a lot of information as I want to make it clear that she's not going to fit most people ideals/lifestyles due to her energy and breed. We were told she was a very different breed to what we think she is but we made it work! She's a very active dog needing a whole lot of stimulation, not your typical house pet. If she gets at least two short walks a day or one long one with a lot of smelling then she is usually very relaxed and mellow at home but if she isn't walked in a day she can get very hyper and bored. She does have separation anxiety which is why she has to be crated when left alone in the home as it keeps her from destructive behaviours due to the anxiety and the crate helps her feel more secure and less anxious. She is huge on scents so scent training would be very beneficial for her. She's very food motivated but gets fustrated easily. She's been around kittens/cats, rabbits, rats, snakes and is very good (cuddles the cat and plays with her). She's also amazing around my one year old but obviously never trust any animal around kids unsupervised! She struggles a lot with her weight and it fluctuates often, we believe this is because of the diet she was on as a puppy. She came to us with a brand of biscuits called 'bulking biscuits' and had little to no nutritional value and had stones mixed in to make her feel full i imagine. It took a while to stop her from eating stones but she will occasionally try when on walks but often times spits them out now and listens well to the 'drop' command. We were told she was a German shepherd cross staffy. We believe she's part colli, part Mali and part staffy or something similar. I do honestly think she's a result of some sort of backyard breeding. Temperament wise, she's amazing. She gets fustrated with treats if she really wants it and learning a new command so will whine and jump and cry but never snatches. She is food aggressive with dogs. Not as bad as I've seen in other dogs but she will snarl and lunge so she needs to be fed separately to other animals. She isn't however food aggressive with people, im able to take the bowl away when she's eating. Stroke her face/body. Take food out and in her bowl and she will just step back and look at me, this is something I make sure I do every couple feedings. I'm looking for a new home for her due to my declining health, this is a very common excuse people use when they don't want to admit they just can't be bothered with their pets anymore so I'm going to go a little more into it. I have Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) which is a painful, long-term skin condition that causes skin abscesses and scarring on the skin. There's no cure and no known reason for it, they believe it can be genetic. I have unfortunately progressed to the latest stages so task like walking the dogs (expecially Holly twice a day or a long walk) is excruciatingly painful and often times leaves me bleeding or worse the following day. I've been holding out for as long as i can in hopes that treatments would reduce my symptoms but unfortunately nothing has helped and I'm left with drastic choices like invasive surgery which isn't an option for me as I am the primary parent to a one year old so I can't be bed bound for months recovering 😅. There's still so much more i could write about Holly but I'll save that for serious inquiries. I will be extremely picky with who she goes to as I don't want her going to just anyone and overly aware of ppl looking for dog bait or breeders so please keep that in mind before messaging me. I'll most likely ask for pictures to make sure your home is suitable for her. Mines tiny and cramped so I'm not judgemental in that sense just don't want her going to someone who can't look after themselves as Holly needs a lot of looking after herself. She would be okay with other pets and children, I always will say older kids are best but she's amazing with my one year old, very aware of herself around him careful not to knock him over or unintentionally hurt him and I often catch her watching him when he's doing things he shouldn't and cries when he's trying to climb the stairs so she's very emotionally intelligent. I just want her to go to the best home as we love her to bits but she's not getting what she needs with us anymore. She's free to the best home
