Description
Name: Rex Size: Medium Age: Approx 3 years old Sex: Male Breed: Mixed Breed Location: Rotherham, UK Sadly due to a change in his owners circumstances, Rex has been surrendered back into the care of SPDC. He’s had a bit of a tough start in life, being a street dog in Cyprus and then spending over a year in the Limassol Pound. He flew to a foster home but sadly did not get on well with the resident dog and after his recent surrender, he is in kennels, waiting for his forever home. We have no doubt when you meet Rex that he will greet you with a smile and a waggy tail! He loves people, affection and fuss. Being SO friendly he can become frustrated when he’s not allowed to say hello to new friends straight away and he can bark. He’s been working on this by sitting when his walker sees another dog approaching which is helping. He is a big fan of playing and really loves toys so would love a home who would be happy to play tug of war with him. Given that he’s not previously had much, he does have the tendency to guard so will need an experienced home to work through this with him. Rex has spent the majority of his life in a kennels so it will take him time to adapt to living in a home which is so alien to him. He will need time to decompress and a family that is able to give him that space to adapt to the change as sometimes he can become over excited. He is crate trained and is happy to sleep in a crate overnight or to relax during the day. We would recommend any future adopters ensure they have a crate for Rex as it’s his safe space. Rex does love other dogs and is very playful and excited, although sometimes he forgets his size. Being in the pound for so long, Rex never really got a chance to learn to socialise, so he is still learning boundaries and appropriate play styles. We think Rex would be more suitable as the only pet in the home. Rex knows some basic commands and is also doing well at walking on harness and lead. He is food motivated which will definitely help with his training. An ideal home for Rex would be an experienced owner who see’s his potential and are willing to continue his training. With lots of guidance, patience and love, we have no doubt he will blossom into an amazing family dog! So what are you waiting for? If you think you could help, please get in touch. If you are interested in Rex and becoming his forever family, please email info@spdc.org.uk or contact us via our page (Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus - SPDC). SPDC adoption package applies.
