SKYE’s Story
Perhaps you remember the heartbreaking tale of SKYE and her mate RUBBLE, two senior Jackapoos surrendered in unimaginable circumstances. Their elderly dad, facing his own failing health and the loss of his wife, brought them to us with a heavy heart. He loved them dearly but could no longer care for them. With tears streaming down his face, he said goodbye by giving them the last loving gesture he could—a cheeseburger each as a final act of kindness.
SKYE’s world was turned upside down. Everything she had known and loved was gone—her family, her home, her routine. Despite the upheaval, SKYE has remained a sweet and trusting little soul, eager to form new bonds and find a lap she can finally call her own.
When she arrived in rescue, SKYE required urgent veterinary care. In addition to spaying, she needed extensive dental work to relieve her discomfort and improve her quality of life. The rescue has spent twice the typical adoption fee on her care to ensure she’s healthy and ready for her new home. RUBBLE has since found his forever family, but SKYE is still waiting for hers. What we’ve learned from her foster family is that SKYE isn’t as bonded to other dog as we initially thought. Instead, she thrives on human connection and craves the reassurance of being someone’s one and only.

More About SKYE
SKYE is the definition of a lap dog. She wants nothing more than to be near her human, showering them with love and enjoying endless cuddles. Her adorable full-body wag when greeting you will melt your heart.
However, SKYE has had a tough time and needs some understanding and patience. Her toilet training is improving but requires consistency and reassurance, especially as she can have accidents when left alone. For this reason, SKYE would thrive in a home where someone is present most of the day.
She’s slightly reactive when meeting other dogs on walks but is easily managed with positive reinforcement. SKYE walks well on the lead, although her excitement sometimes leads to a gentle pull. She’s unbothered by busy streets, towns, and even buses, making her a perfect companion for everyday adventures.
The Perfect Home for SKYE
SKYE would be best suited to an older or retired individual or couple who can spend most of their day with her. She needs a home where she can be the sole centre of attention, free to snuggle, love, and share her joy with her family. Her gentle and affectionate nature makes her a wonderful companion, and her small size means she doesn’t require a lot of exercise.
SKYE has so much love to give and simply needs the right home to let her shine. Despite her challenges, she’s a devoted companion who will fill your days with joy, loyalty, and unconditional love.
Support SKYE
To increase her adoptability, we’ve reduced SKYE’s adoption fee. However, her vet bills (dental work and spaying) have far exceeded the adoption fee. If you can’t adopt but want to help, donations towards her care would be greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps us continue to support dogs like SKYE.
