Description
SPECIAL HOME NEEDED *please read full description* Buzz is looking for a confident and experienced owner, preferably adult only household, where he can be the centre of your attention! He needs someone who is willing to put time into his training and has experience with owning a reactive dog and using positive rewards based training. Buzz will thrive in an environment that offers him time, space and consistency, allowing him to adjust his new home at his own pace. He would benefit being the only dog in a household or living with another very confident dog. Buzz is a typical working cocker in lots of ways, he loves to run around and play, and loves to work his brain. Once he is comfortable with a new person, he is really loving and affectionate. In the home, Buzz is really laid back and after his walk, loves to curl up by your feet for the rest of the day. He also enjoys rest days where he likes to do mental enrichment with training, scent work and puzzles. Buzz lacks confidence around new people and dogs. This is displayed in fear/frustration reactivity to strangers in the home and dogs that he does not know. With positive management tools in place, Buzz can easily be distracted by treats and LOVES to carry his toys. Buzz however is very confident in exploring new environments. With appropriate introductions, Buzz also enjoys the company of dogs and will often look to them for reassurance when on a walk. Throughout Buzz's training we have used positive rewards based methods which he responds really well to and he has come a long way. Buzz is a well-behaved and well-mannered dog, he knows a lot of commands and loves to do tricks, and is very eager to please. He would not respond well to aversive methods and he needs time to build trust and a positive relationship with his new owner. Buzz walks well on a short lead, he can pull but this calms down once he either knows the area or if he’s had time to burn off some energy. He has a walk most days on a combination of short lead and a 15m longline. He does not go off lead due to his reactivity towards dogs and walking close to rivers which he cannot resist! Buzz is whistle trained and has really good recall. Buzz also enjoys secure fields and likes to use this opportunity to run around but also looks to you to play/interact whilst there. Unfortunately, there has been a change of circumstances within the home as our other older dog has recently become blind. Buzz used to get on really well with her however since she has been blind, they have struggled to communicate. So we have made the difficult decision that it is best for everyone that we find Buzz a new special home. We’ve been working with a behaviourist who have assessed him and worked with us both in the home and out on walks for the last 6 months. They have supported us on our decision to rehome Buzz and they are also available to offer their support during this process. Buzz looks forward to hearing from you!
