Rupert is such a kind and gentle soul, though I can see that he struggles with confidence in his riding abilities. I feel that he would thrive better as a companion horse or with a more experienced adult rider by his side. I truly believe he has incredible potential, but I lack the expertise to guide him on that journey.
Up until now, I have only taken him to one show, and it did not go well at all. The overwhelming sights and sounds of the event seemed to engulf him, leaving him anxious and unsettled. Recognizing his discomfort, we decided to return to more manageable experiences, focusing on smaller, quieter outings that felt more comfortable for him. outings at Arena Hire, where he was much calmer.
I believe he may be slightly cold-backed because when I first mount him, he hunches his back and exhibits signs of discomfort, such as tensing his muscles and shifting his weight. However, once we begin to move forward at a steady pace, that initial discomfort seems to dissipate, and he relaxes, allowing for a smoother ride.
He has never shown any aggression towards me, but when he's uncertain, he tends to rear—a behavior that speaks to his current state of mind. With the right training and understanding, I'm convinced he could truly shine.
Rupert comes with all his tack, rugs, and accessories included. While he generally loads well, he can feel a bit nervous at times. He is also good for shoeing, though he experiences some anxiety in the process. I want to be transparent and share that he is quite ear-shy due to no fault of his own so he has trouble putting a bridle on.
