Description

Introduction: Holly is a gentle 7-year-old cat who may be a bit anxious at first, but once she feels safe, her love is unconditional. She’s looking for a quiet, patient home where she can take her time adjusting to new surroundings. Holly would thrive in a calm environment and will reward your kindness with soft purrs and cozy companionship. This shy girl is perfect for someone who understands that love and trust take time. She may always rush to greet you at the door, but give her space, and she’ll soon become your loyal, low-maintenance friend. She loves quiet spots to nap and enjoys being stroked once she knows you. She also enjoys playing inside and out having recently rediscovered some of her toys. She particularly loves chasing after string (or toys on the end of a stick) and playing with little furry mice – just be careful as she is partial to eating their tails! She also enjoys being able to go outside independently so this would have to be an option open to her in her new home. If you have the time and patience to offer Holly a forever home, you’ll have a sweet, loving companion for years to come. Holly has been with us since she was a kitten and is now a young 7 years old. She is friendly but also shy as well as a bit anxious. She can jump at sudden movement or noise and she doesn’t like the hoover or hairdryer and will hide or leave the room when they’re used. She has rediscovered her toys and likes to play as well as occasionally going out to the communal garden behind us – or just sitting on our terrace watching life go by. Access to outside space is a must as we wouldn’t want to restrict what she has now. A quieter garden would be better – but she is used to the busy area where we are currently. We are in an upper ground floor flat – no cat flap but used to let Holly out when she asked – although sometimes she would ask and then just sit by the open door! She would climb down the wall and then climb back up to come home. She loves to sleep at the end of our bed, curled up on the sofa – or she is happy finding an empty box, bag or any odd surface to sleep in/on! She’s a beautiful tri coloured shorthaired cat with gorgeous markings. She likes to spend time on her own and is very used to being left during the day when you’re at work. We’ve been lucky with Holly as she hasn’t destroyed anything in our flat and we only have a few minor, barely noticeable marks on the leather sofa from when she suddenly runs off quickly when she has a mad five minutes – usually just before she needs to use the toilet! Holly likes being social too, usually when it is a little quieter. She comes out to join us in the evening and likes to sit on a lap and be fussed over, although isn’t too keen on being picked up often. She really likes being brushed too! I have bathed her a few times – although she isn’t a great fan of water, she tolerated it well and is quick to show her appreciation once she's out of the bath! We have a son (who is quite loud and unsubtle in his movements and entrances into a room) as well as a small dog. I think Holly finds this a bit much at times and will often seek a quieter room when things are too loud. She would benefit from a house with adult occupants either single or a couple who can devout time to her and make her the centre of attention, which we aren’t really able to offer her currently. We may also have to move soon and finding a suitable property that will take multiple pets will be tricky. We would like to see Holly go to a home which is calmer, which she would benefit from and where she might be happier. Holly has been neutered and was checked over by our vet in December and was in good health. She is fully vaccinated and her vaccination notes can be provided (next due in March) and comes with prescription strength flea and worming medication which is really what the fee goes towards. Also included are toys, brushes, a bed and a Surefeed Microchip feeder which keeps her food fresh all day long. She's a bit fussy or knows what she likes and prefers to eat the same food, currently a mix of Purina One dry food and Gourmet Savoury Cake, both readily available. With regard to other medical issues, she went to the vets once before for an abscess under her jaw, which appears to have been from a bite after a fight but this is the only time she has had to go other than routine visits. She has also had her anal glands drained as they’d got blocked up. Holly isn’t a fan of tablet medication so we have been using products which are put on the back of her neck. She tolerates it well and I used to do it just before bed, so it was dry by the morning. Holly was trained to use the toilet, so we didn’t use a litter tray with her but she knows how to use one and would prefer this to using the toilet. Our dog would try to eat from the litter tray, so we wanted to eliminate this as an option. So you have the option of using either going forward. A friend of ours was going to take Holly but due to a change in their circumstances this is no longer possible, so we are now looking for her forever home. Holly has been a great part of our family and we are sad to say goodbye to her but can’t offer her what she needs or deserves at present and believe she may be better off somewhere quieter and where she can be the centre of attention. If you think you might be that home, please tell us a bit about yourself, where you are based and why you think you’d be the best home for her when contacting us.

Be responsible, do your research!

Be responsible, do your research!

Getting a new cat or kitten is a massive commitment, so make sure you have researched the breed fully and have the time and commitment necessary to care for the cat. Do you have the right living conditions to have a cat? Most healthy cats would prefer to be able to go outside, but some prefer to live indoors. If you are keeping your cat indoors, please make sure that you can provide the cat with the opportunity to exhibit normal hunting behaviour. You can read our detailed Information guide about cats for potential new cat owners. Also read our Cat breed information profile.

Kittens must be viewed with their mother in the seller's home!

Kittens must be viewed with their mother in the seller's home!

Always view the kitten at the seller’s home with the kittens' mother. Do not accept any excuses for sending money without a viewing having taken place, or if the advertiser attempts to meet you at any other location than their own home. Unscrupulous sellers will often suggest another location to avoid showing the kitten’s true living conditions. Pets4Homes do not allow the third party sale of kittens. All litters of kittens advertised, MUST have been bred by the seller. Make sure that the interaction between the kitten and its mother is natural to avoid the setting being staged.

Health check & paperwork

Health check & paperwork

The seller should be willing to let you take the pet to a vet of your choice for a health check and return the pet within 48 hours for a full refund if there are health issues. If the kitten has already been health checked, make sure you have this documented and phone their vet. The vet may not be able to disclose specific health information due to GDPR, however they should confirm the kittens have been checked. When you meet the kitten, they should be sociable and alert, with bright eyes and no visible health issues.

Kittens should receive 2 vaccinations, the first at around 8 weeks of age and the second, two to three weeks later. Kittens should not be allowed outside until 7 days after their second injection. Cats should also receive a yearly vaccination booster. Ask the breeder which vaccinations they have had and if not, why not. If the seller has not started the kittens vaccinations, it will be your responsibility to make sure you arrange both vaccinations 7 days before letting your kitten go outside.Kittens should really be wormed at around 2 weeks of age, and again at around 5 weeks of age, and finally just before they leave the seller/breeder at 8 to 12 weeks of age.

Pets4Homes always recommend that you microchip your cat/kitten, especially if you have an outdoor cat. This provides a safe way of identification if the cat were to be lost. In December 2021 the government announced that they are set to introduce new rules saying that all pet cats over 20 weeks need to be microchipped. No dates when this is coming into effect have yet been announced.

Is the cat/kitten registered with the GCCF, TICA or FIFe? If they are, then check to make sure you are given the correct documents BEFORE you decide to take the cat home. It may also be worth phoning the organisation to check if the information provided is correct.

Report, don’t support!

Report, don’t support!

If you believe a kitten may be subject to irresponsible breeding, do not “rescue” the kitten by rehoming it. Walk away and report the seller to us immediately. You should also report your concerns directly to the local council as they have the authority to inspect the premises if there are any welfare concerns, and can take further action if required. We work closely with several local councils, trading standards and police forces and we are able to provide any account or advert details if requested and if a data protection request is sent to us. Find contact details to your local council.

For serious welfare and / or cruelty issues, please contact the RSPCA (England & Wales) on 0300 1234 999, or SSPCA (Scotland) on 03000 999 999 immediately.

Contract & Payment

Kittens must be at least 8 weeks when collected

Kittens must be at least 8 weeks when collected

Kittens must be at least 8 weeks old and fully weaned before they can leave their mothers. Please make sure to check the paperwork to ensure the kitten is old enough. Most responsible sellers will keep their kittens longer than this before they let them go to new homes. Read further information on the minimum age kittens should be before leaving their mothers.

Get your cat insured!

Get your cat insured!

It’s worth looking into pet insurance before your pet arrives. Millions of pet owners get peace of mind from having insurance that can cover the cost of unexpected vet bills to treat accidents and illness.

Premiums can be less expensive for younger pets, and getting pet insurance early in their lives means they’re covered for conditions before they develop. If your pet develops an illness before you have insurance, it’s likely to be excluded, and you’d never be able to claim for it.
