Meet Cody - The little fella with a big personality! Cody is mixed breed but looks like Jackahuahua (with a hint of Queen Ann table leg charm!). Cody is a wonderful little dog with a heart full of love and a lot of character.
Rescued from Romania as a puppy, he came to us with a traumatic injury to his tail, which required surgery. He was quite a shy little pup, but was adopted into a home fairly quickly. Unfortunately this was not the right environment for Cody and he never really settled, so a year on he is now back with us in rescue and looking for his forever home.
Cody is looking for a quiet and understanding home where he can truly thrive. He cannot be homed in a flat and ideally needs a rural (less urban) home with a garden.
Personality: Cody is a sweet and friendly dog once he’s settled in. He can be a bit shy at first, but once he gets to know you, he’s an absolute bundle of fun! He’s great with other dogs, loves to run around and play, and is always up for an adventure. He’s also very curious and loves meeting new people while out on walks.
Cody had shown some reactivity around visitors in his adoptive home, but he’s never been aggressive—just a bit of barking when he’s unsure, but he does not display these behaviours in rescue and we think that he was perhaps picking up on his adopters anxiety in his last home.
What Cody Needs: Cody found living in an urban environment over stimulating, so he’s looking for a calm and quiet home, ideally in a peaceful area where he can relax. A child-free home with a secure, enclosed garden would be perfect for him to enjoy some outdoor time. While he’s not a fan of loud noises or crowded spaces, he thrives when he’s out on walks, especially in the countryside where he can run free and explore. He’s also a bit reactive to dogs on a lead, particularly big or unruly ones, but when he’s given space, he’s generally happy to play and interact with other dogs and has already made lots of doggy friends at the rescue.
Since being back in rescue Codys behaviour has changed a lot and he is now a happy wee chappy with everyone he meets, including with strangers, so we feel that much of his behaviour was due to his environment and that a quieter relaxed home will bring out all of his positive attributes.
Cody’s Likes and Dislikes: Cody loves to: • Zoom around and play chase with other dogs • Sniff and explore new places • Play tug-of-war with humans • Chew on soft toys and get the stuffing out • Enjoy treats, especially carrots • Run after sticks and balls (though he never quite got the hang of fetch!)
Cody dislikes • Being bathed or towel dried • The sound of neighbours in a flat or the buzzer going off • Public transport or vet visits Training &
Behavior: Cody has learned several commands, including Sit, Stay, Down, Watch, Come (his recall is good but could use reinforcement), and Leave It. He’s a visual learner, so hand gestures help him understand commands better. He is generally good on the lead and enjoys his walks, though he can be a bit stubborn at times. Cody has shown some resource guarding in the home, but has been easily trained out of this with positive reinforcement techniques. He should not be given bones or chew toys like yak chews, as he tends to guard them. Cody is happy around humans on walks, even strangers, and loves to sniff them, but he’ll always do things in his own way and at his own pace. He’s comfortable with being picked up and loves a cuddle.
