Ember is a stunning girl in search of a new home that will allow her the time she needs to come out of her shell. She boasts a beautiful, fluffy coat of mostly brown fur, accented with darker patches around her ears, muzzle, and eyes, and a lighter underbelly that completes her charming appearance.
Rescued from a rubbish dump as a tiny puppy alongside her brother Oakley, she was taken to a kennel in Macedonia where she awaited adoption for several years. During our April visit to the frontline, we were charmed by her sweet personality and chose to bring her to the UK for a forever home. She initially found an adoptive home, but her shyness proved challenging, and her adopter struggled with her inability to immediately adapt to home life. Consequently, she has returned to our care.
Ember is a truly endearing girl who may be timid at first with new people, she slowly becomes affectionate, seeking cuddles and enjoying belly rubs. With Ember, patience is key, as her shy nature can sometimes be a setback since she’s not the quintessential outgoing dog. She’s in need of a loving home that will meet her needs and nurture her confidence.
She’s quite adaptable with a confident person guiding her, and we’ve recently started training her to get into the car. Initially, she was a bit anxious, but now she’s taken a real liking to it, even to the point of not wanting to get out once. She’s got her basic commands down and will happily sit and offer a paw for a treat, which she accepts gently. Fully house, crate, and lead trained, she’s a dream on walks, enjoying her outdoor adventures. She is neutral towards other dogs she meets, and having a calm, older dog at home could be great for her, giving her a role model to follow.
Crate training is crucial for Ember; it’s important that her new home includes a crate, providing her with a personal space similar to a small bedroom. This space will allow her to relax away from the busy activities of the household.
Ember is often called a “warmer-upper” because she takes her time to open up. However, once she does, she shows herself to be an incredibly affectionate dog who simply wants to offer love and be loved in return.
