Description

Monty – 12-Month-Old Newfoundland Fostered in Gloucestershire in an adult family home with other dogs. Monty is a stunning young Newfoundland who recently came into our care after his previous owners found him too much to handle. As he grew into a strong, powerful dog, they struggled with walks, particularly when he wanted to greet other dogs without training and proper guidance Monty became too much for them. He was so nervous that first day https://youtube.com/shorts/7miAq1G3njo?si=opo70jargKXKDRtH It took quite a few hours to get him to relax with our other dogs https://youtube.com/shorts/xLYbRmTZHzY?si=wL5UV6Kar1j-l6Bc Too scared to get into the car https://youtube.com/shorts/vG8va2jbYWc?si=u5pIcukIIqEmaK1y First few days wanted to play but too scared to completely let himself go https://youtube.com/shorts/idJA0_fhmlw?si=sNgRsuC8yh5udGsf Monty’s Progress in Foster Care When Monty first arrived, he was terrified of the resident dogs, barking and trying to escape. Watching a dog of his size feel so overwhelmed and frightened was heartbreaking, especially when he had only just celebrated his first birthday. Even getting him into a car took an hour of patient coaxing. When meeting new people, he was a mix of barking, wagging his tail, and nervous energy. Meeting Sarah who has met once before https://youtube.com/shorts/0fWGJ7d3xSI?si=RV8QAxMRSZ-uIXpC In the Home Monty has settled well with his foster family and loves to play. He has a cheeky side, often running off with clothes and offering his paw for attention. He sleeps loose in the kitchen/lounge with the other dogs and has been perfectly clean in the house. With Other Dogs Monty’s biggest challenge has been learning how to interact with other dogs properly. At first, he was fearful and unsure how to play. With patience and guidance, he has made huge progress. This was him in the beginning when he was not sure about playing with Lucy and nervous https://youtube.com/shorts/amtQ0rzLENk?si=PaVu8IyFUgWaK5VS He has learned from the resident dogs, getting used to playing appropriately and understanding social cues. His confidence has blossomed, and he enjoys running and playing with his foster sister. Loves playing with Lucy https://youtube.com/shorts/kxEjaabwgH8?si=vqlYp29h63oGSjCS https://youtube.com/shorts/rtmKHOPl4fs?si=f9quAM69UkTAX4XI https://youtube.com/shorts/rxuz2Djt9TE?si=dIrpj5nN_8dtzFDS Out and About He follows the lead of the other dogs in his foster home and is learning to say polite hellos with both people and other dogs Walking pass a group of people https://youtube.com/shorts/5rOVVMNwnhk?si=xLqdS0DDzUdAzHON Meeting new dogs https://youtube.com/shorts/GgNR2O7LuAY?si=lIOviYWfG8uGzwFt https://youtube.com/shorts/O0TRD4TKAvk?si=CoUcJc3JtzYWs5W4 https://youtube.com/shorts/m511wGzI2X4?si=pDEqdLAFR90lghA5 These were new dogs he walked with nervous at first but quickly was relaxed with them https://youtube.com/shorts/v4lQ4TTMhiI?si=hugP8x5gDFOlDDQu He now jumps happily into the car and travels well. Travelling https://youtube.com/shorts/oDHLRsb3mj8?si=hSBYH4KXqZ-_yDH4 This was him today (16.2.) see how he takes no notices of the bikes and kids and just jumps in the car https://youtube.com/shorts/xFJe5v0fvaE?si=mGwT3nZ-yr1y_O0Z His love for water is emerging—he seeks out puddles and ditches for a paddle! Some nice muddy ones sometimes too https://youtube.com/shorts/awjZR73Of4I?si=FOB-AuCNZ9_p3VsZ Discovering his inner Newfie https://youtube.com/shorts/GhQZEITSahg?si=VTwuZTM5ukIduYYD https://youtube.com/shorts/YjTpc6vz-5c?si=Sa0wf4v9ereuMzLl He soon relaxed in the pub I think having his foster sister Lucy by his side helped saying hello to people https://youtube.com/shorts/9kJONgl6Seg?si=jSBjEcK06Zhloorz Chilling out https://youtu.be/LlVlHW8MS_8?si=1_HnktTLAocdcR2R Naughty foster mummy feeding him at the table https://youtu.be/UaEMlH02JIA?si=FwSAfZSxvR4ObBh9 He loves helping in the kitchen https://youtube.com/shorts/mYUSd_usUFA?si=VorxI_d4nGa59O1R and sleeping upside down https://youtube.com/shorts/rVBaCsV0PBQ?si=JicTH-rFwofC6Fe6 We are taking him dog training to build up his confidence this is his second session and doing really well takes about 15 mins for him to calm down and stop being stressed then he does really well https://youtube.com/shorts/QBHlk8clCbc?si=DuFKNftwvOPrEZ4g https://youtube.com/shorts/sLtkaskewLU?si=ZxWsW__rrG-x0159 What Monty Needs in a Home Monty is a big, loving boy who has come so far, but he still needs the right home to continue his journey. We are very specific about his needs because we want him to flourish and ensure he never becomes a ‘problem dog’ due to fear or lack of guidance. His new home must: Have experience with large breeds, preferably Newfoundlands, and understand the commitment involved, including coat care, slobber, and muddy paws! Be confident and experienced with training—he needs continued structured learning, including attending dog training classes to help him build confidence and social skills. He is a very sensitive dog but does requires firm and clear guidance but this must given with kindness and reward. Have at least one other dog—Monty has thrived with his foster family’s dogs, and this has been key to his progress. Ideally, a friendly, confident female dog would be best, as he is still entire and too young to be neutered. Live in a rural or semi-rural environment—Monty loves his off-lead time and would not suit a town setting. Be willing to let him off-lead in safe spaces—freedom and exercise are essential for his well-being. He has been well cared for, with regular vet visits in his previous home. If you’ve read everything and believe you’re the right match for Monty, we would love to hear from you!
