Benji is a tiny, handsome little boy with the most wonderful ears!
Benji arrived into our care very untrusting. He has become much more confident since arriving at the shelter but it’s still difficult for him to trust.
Benji still finds it difficult if somebody makes a quick movement or if he hears a loud noise, and will try to escape.
Benji loves other dogs and finds security in having them nearby so a home with a resident dog or dogs is essential for Benji.
IDEAL HOME
Ideally a home in Spain is sought so that Benji doesn't have to travel but we will consider the UK if the right home is found.
As an escape artist, Benji jumps and scales very well so his adopter would need to be experienced with this type of dog and put into place proper security measures to keep him safe.
BACKGROUND
We rescued Benji from a very busy municipal pound in central Spain. He had been collected by the authorities from a breeding hunter with this two equally terrified siblings. He was having a terrible time at the pound sitting and shaking at the back of the pen only daring to venture out if food was thrown.
Benji is a Spanish Podenco (similar to a Portguese Podengo) and was a working dog - please research the breed-specific needs of the Podenco before applying. Please contact us if you would like to apply to adopt.

All of our dogs have an international passport (unless born in the UK) and are microchipped. They are fully vaccinated for standard diseases as well as rabies and kennel cough. All dogs are blood tested for infectious diseases including Leishmaniasis, Dirofilaria, Ehrlichia, Babesia, Anaplasma, Lyme and Brucella Canis. All dogs, unless there are medical or behavioural reasons to not do so, will be sterilised. Benji is neutered. Please note that we will advise medical results and treatments upon successful application.
