Description

It is with great sadness and remorse that we are looking for a new forever home for our darling boy. We have decided he needs more attention that we are able to give him and with one of our children already flown the nest and another set to leave for college soon we would rather see him with a family that has the time and love for him that he deserves. He was hand reared in a home with males, females, children and pets. He thinks of himself as part cat, dog and human ! He mimics the cat and talks to her, calls out to the dog and greets us every day with his chatter. Hello , Good Night, G'day Gorgeous, Whats that, Have it ! and he is still learning. Will will give your our Mimic Me where you can record a saying and leave it with him so every time he makes a noise it plays the recording. A very quick way to have him learn new words/sayings. He is so friendly, tame and happy on your shoulder, in your lap or getting snuggly under the covers ! He doesn't fly so is often on our shoulder in the garden, at work, or even when we are out riding our bikes. He would quite happily spend hours in the garden scratching about. He will happily go to anyone and climb up their leg or onto their offered shoulder and has even sat and preened our cat. I'm looking at him now snuggled next to the dog and my husband on the couch ! He comes with all his toys, whatever seed we have left at the time, feather supplements and vitamins, two cages, one super large one that he spends time during the day if we are working and a smaller one with a blackout cover that he sleeps in. He is a great sleeper, and needs at least 12 hours (in a quiet house he will sleep longer, as we occasionally have a sleep in and he is still snuggled and snoozing when we get up) . He turns into Mr Fluffernuffle (fluffs his feathers and tucks his head) when he is ready to sleep and even has the occasional day nap. He does not fly, not that he can't but he chooses not to, we have only seen him glide a few times and it was more falling with style than full flapping of wings and flying. He's never been clipped, just never learnt/not keen. Last vet check up was about 10 mths ago (as he had lost a few leg feathers and we wanted to get him checked out, it was quickly remedied by a vitamin drop supplement). Other than that we have had no health issues with him . So who do you think you would be the best fit for our boy ? Then please think of these things before getting in touch. 1. Do you have the time to spend with him ? As he is used to company he will want to be with you as much as possible. 2. Do you have the space ? Ideally you would have somewhere in your home his night cage could be so once he is covered he is not disturbed by your voices or TV etc. 3. Do you know how long cockatoos live ? 40-70 years. 4. Do you know how much it costs to keep a cockatoo ? Initially a large investment and then Pence ! One 15 kilo bag of mixed seed lasts a year. He loves to try everything we eat but is partial to peas, carrots, cos lettuce, rocket, cucumber, clementines, chicken wings and scrambled eggs. Check out the picture of him at our dinner table with is own plate ! Please get in touch if you are seriously considering an addition to your family.
