Personality
The highly intelligent, aggressively affectionate Peterbald will entertain you with its playful antics. They are active and athletic, friendly and curious. They will meet visitors at the door, exist in harmony with other cats and with dogs, and they will be the light of your life. The deeply affectionate peterbald cat will be in your lap as many hours as you will allow it. They will sit by you as you drink your morning coffee, sit by your chair during meals, crawl under the covers when you go to bed – there won't be a minute in the day your cat won't want to spend with you. Many of them are highly vocal and will "talk back" to you. They will follow you to the door when you leave the house and meet you in the same place when you come home. Once you have lived with a peterbald, life will never be the same.
Peterbalds have very outgoing, inquisitive, trusting natures, so they easily get along with other animals (including cats), children and strangers with minimal muss or fuss! In fact, they’re totally cool with playing host to anyone who happens upon your doorstep.
Though his name may make you think that the Peterbald is always bald and beautiful; there are actually five variations of his coat:
1. Bald — completely without hair, whiskers or eyebrows and slightly sticky to the touch
2. Flock or Chamois — 90 percent hairless with no sticky touch and a feel like chamois leather
3. Velour — 70 percent hairless with a slight coat (up to 1mm in length)
4. Brush — unique to the breed, feeling a bit like felt and consisting of wiry hair that’s up to 5mm long
5. Straight — a short coat with normal whiskers just as siamese and orientals (this type of coat indicates that no copy of the hair loss gene is present.
