Description

Meet MJ and John. We've been given MJ and John to look after for 2 months but their owner's circumstances have changed so now I am left with these two muffins and very little time to actually look after them. They're both very independent but I feel they deserve someone that can give them the attention they deserve. They have love-hate relationship as they're both teenage boys so they don't have to be adopted together. However, if you're planning on neutering them they would very much like to keep hanging out. MJ was born on 30th of May 2024 and he's an English Spot. He's not registered with a vet but has had his shots and weighs 2.5kg. He's very energetic and likes to pretend he doesn't like attention but once he's comfortable with you he will gladly sit down to get scratched and pet. He will also return the favour by extensively grooming you. He'd benefit from having some space to run and having someone to play with daily or ideally being neutered and having a female companion. John was born on 25th of June 2024 and he's a Mini Lop. I've never seen a bunny more loving than him. All he wants is to be cuddled all day. He does kick up a very small fuss of being picked up but once he's in your lap, he'll stay there for hours so long as he's being scratched. He's had his health checked, been vaccinated and is perfectly healthy. He's currently registered with a vet in Romsey. He weighs only 1kg but he most likely will grow a bit more. John won't need any bunny companions as long as you let him follow you around while you do your daily activities and make sure you cuddle him as much as possible. Both of them will come with their cages some hay, nuggets, toys, bowls and bedding to get you started out. We also have a pen and 16 piece of 50cm x 50cm interlocking foam mat squares. I'd suggest the foam mat for John since he never nibbles on it and it makes it easier for clean up if you have carpets. Pen can come with MJ as he's a bit more mischievous and likes to explore every nook and cranny so I use the pen to fence off any off limit areas. I cannot explain how soul crushing it is to give them away so all I want is for them to find a home they'll be loved in. It would be nice if you had some experience with bunnies but it's ok if you don't as long as you've done your research beforehand and are willing to learn more about these wonderful creatures.

Buyer's checklist for rabbits

1

Be responsible, do your research first

Getting rabbits is a massive commitment, so make sure you have researched all of their general needs, and those specific to their breed fully and have the time and commitment necessary to care for the rabbits. You can read our detailed information guide about rabbits for potential new rabbit owners. If you are looking for a rabbit to keep your rabbit company remember that they will both need to be neutered and that a male / female pair works best. Rabbits are a long term commitment as they can live up to 10 years.

2

Rabbits need a friend and space

Rabbits should never be kept alone, they need the company of other (neutered) rabbits. They need space to stand, hop, jump and run, and safe places for hiding. The absolute minimum space required 24/7 for up to 2 average sized rabbits is area 3m x 2m x 1m high.

3

Health check & welfare

It can be difficult for the average person to check if a rabbit is healthy or not. The seller should be willing to let you take the rabbit to a vet of your choice for a health check and return the pet within 48 hours for a full refund if there are health issues. If the rabbit has already been health checked, make sure you have this documented and phone their vet. Also remember rabbits need to be neutered so that they can live with other rabbits, and vaccinated annually to protect them against myxomatosis and RVHD1 and 2. Register with a rabbit friendly veterinary Practice. We would advise that you read the following article containing rabbit care and welfare information provided by the Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund (RWAF).

4

Report, don’t support!

If you believe a rabbit may be subject to irresponsible breeding, do not “rescue” the rabbit by rehoming it. Walk away and report the seller to us immediately.

5

Rabbits must be 8 weeks when collected

Rabbits must be at least 8 weeks old and fully weaned before they can leave their mothers. Most responsible sellers will keep their rabbits longer than this before they let them go to new homes. Make sure you take some of the food with you so you can change over to your own food gradually.
