Description
Tezz came to understand very sad circumstances. We received a call from a nurse who told us about an elderly gentleman who had been admitted to hospital with hypothermia after falling unconscious at home. It was mentioned to her by a family member that Tezz was home alone. Although the family member had been stopping by to leave water for her, the home was in an unliveable state. The nurse couldn’t bear the thought of Tezz being left there any longer and reached out for help.
When our rescuers entered the house, they were heartbroken by what they found. The home was piled high with rubbish, a clear sign that Tezz’s owner had been struggling with both his physical and mental health for a long time. We can only imagine that Tezz was his reason to keep going each day. Unfortunately her owner passed away a few days later, so we'd love to find Tezz another loving home.
Despite her mature years, Tezz is in excellent health. A full check-up at the vet confirmed she’s all good to go—her blood work is clear, her liver and kidney function show no issues, and her eyesight remains strong with no signs of cataracts. She did have a cyst on her back leg drained, but the vet assures us it’s nothing to worry about. She does have a small bald patch of alopecia on her back, which so far hasn’t shown any signs of regrowth. This was caused when the RSPCA visited her home in January and shaved the area due to suspected matting. While we’re unsure if the fur will grow back, it doesn’t cause her any discomfort. In the meantime, we are applying coconut oil and neem oil to the area to keep the skin nourished, but Tezz herself doesn’t seem bothered by it at all.
Tezz now enjoys a daily walk and does well on the lead. She does have a slightly sensitive tummy, which likely stems from trying to hold it in for long periods in her previous home. Sadly, she often had no choice but to relieve herself indoors, so a patient adopter who can help her fully settle into a routine would be ideal.
When she first arrived, we gave Tezz a regular dog bed, but it was clear she was used to sharing the sofa with her previous owner. So, we put together something that resembled a sofa—and sure enough, she hopped right on and snuggled in, finally feeling at home again.
Tezz has particularly taken herself to our head rescuer, Denise, who will happily tell you just how special this little lady is. Tezz isn’t asking for much—just a warm, comfortable home where she can curl up by the fire and enjoy the companionship of a loving owner. She’s friendly with everyone she meets, making her a wonderful choice for an older couple with visiting grandchildren, or even a younger person looking for a loyal companion to share the sofa with.
She’s fine with other dogs and could live with another calm canine friend following a successful meet and greet, but she would be just as happy as the only dog in the home.
Tezz is not suitable to be rehomed with cats. We attempted a cat test, but she doesn’t seem to understand what a cat is! She tried to play-bow to our kennel cat, which shows she isn’t aggressive towards them, but to ensure her safety and the cat’s comfort, we think it’s best to say no to a home with cats.
Tezz has been through so much, and now she deserves a second chance at a happy, comfortable life.
