Description
Roxi is a charming senior dog in search of a forever home where she can relax and receive the love she truly deserves. She’s a gorgeous, fluffy canine with a predominantly black coat, highlighted by a white chest and paws. Roxi would be an ideal match for anyone seeking a calm, older dog. She was originally rescued from a kill shelter in Romania, where her loving personality lead us to believe that she would make a great candidate for adoption despite being around 5 years old when she was pulled from the shelter, we believe she may have been a family pet before being abandoned. An older gentleman quickly adopted her and had Roxi for nearly four years before his sudden passing. Sadly, his family was unable to take Roxi in, and after urgent pleas for a temporary foster home failed, she was brought to our kennels. Kennels can be a stressful environment for dogs, particularly those unaccustomed to the bustling activity and presence of other dogs, and it was clear that Roxi was also mourning the loss of her previous owner. Despite the numerous changes she has encountered recently, Roxi remains an affectionate, snuggly dog who simply wants to nestle by your side—or on your lap, if you don’t mind. She thrives on affection and constantly seeks attention from her caregivers, even resorting to crying when she spots someone approaching, hoping to lure them into spending time with her. At her core, Roxi is a people-oriented dog and will become your shadow once she trusts you. It’s evident that Roxi was well loved in her previous home, which has contributed to her being slightly overweight. We have started a healthy raw food diet for her, and she’s taken to it with enthusiasm, and is shedding some of her excess weight. Like many dogs, she is not the biggest fan of visitors to her home. This is something we are managing with training and she has gotten a lot better in recent weeks. On the plus side, she makes a great doggy doorbell. She likes being out on walks, especially if we stray into a wooded area where she can get a good sniff and do some exploring. She is neutral towards other dogs when out and about, she will interact nicely when the time calls for it but she can lack confidence so she much prefers her own space away from unfamiliar dogs. In the home, Roxi could potentially live with another dog. A younger more active dog might be a bit much for her so we would much prefer her to be matched with a calm older dog like herself. Roxi has had all the advantages of living in a home, she is fully house trained, crate trained and behaves very well in a home environment. She loves coming up to our office and spending time in the more “homely” setting. She will quite happily plop down on the rug and settle in for a snooze, even better if you want to sit with her and rub her tummy, if your not too busy that is. Despite being on the more mature end, she still loves to play. She loves chasing her ball and would love a home with an enclosed garden where she can enjoy a few toys and roll around in the grass. She walks well on the lead and isn’t prone to pulling, she is a large dog so she does still have the potential to be strong. She’s not keen on cats and may pull at them during walks, but this isn’t seen as a significant issue given her excellent behaviour in other respects. Roxi certainly deserves a loving home; she has many wonderful years ahead of her. She is dearly loved and is a favourite among the kennel staff. The sight of her in the back of someone’s car, on her way to a permanent home, would bring us immense happiness. She has tested negative for brucellosis, leishmaniasis and has passed her Snap 4D test which tests for heartworm, ehrlichia and anaplasma. Roxi had been microchipped and spayed
