Mature male Aphonopelma seemani, AKA - Stripe Knee. New world tarantula from Central America, therefore has urticating hairs on its abdomen that he can kick when feeling threatened. All tarantulas have venom and this tarantulas venom can be compared to a wasp sting , unless you have allergies.
This is a terrestrial species, but he does like a deep hide which he can make an underground tunnel system for himself. I have had this tarantula for a year and at night, he is active in his terrarium, but normally during the day he does like to be hidden. He’s very good at taking food and tends to prefer drinking droplets of water off of a strayed side of glass rather than his actual water dish.
** I do not advise handling ** handling a tarantula can stress it out. If you drop a tarantula drop a height, you can cause it to have internal bleeding and cause a slow and painful death. This species of tarantula has been described on many forums and even on the spider shop, has been described as “docile”. Just because a tarantula is “docile” doesn’t mean it won’t one day bite you or kick hairs!! He is an absolute beautiful boy!
It would just be nice for him to have the opportunity to pass on his DNA to the next load of spider babies before he meets his maker.
