๐ถ TROY is a splendid 4-year-old boy, a gentle giant standing at around 65 cm cm at the shoulder and weighing around 40 kilos. Heโs neutered, housetrained, walks on a leash, used to live both in a flat in a city and in the countryside. TROY is truly a peopleโs dogโheโs calm, loving, patient, and well-balanced, not destructive at home and always yearning for human companionship.
๐ถ TROY was at Foster with old lady and she was struggling to walk him due to his size. That's what she says about him: " Troy is best suited to a couple or strong male/female with experience of large dogs. He is a brilliant guard dog if you have large abode or premises. Suitable with children 14 and over not a large family as he can be overwhelmed with too many people. He is an Ukraine war dog with some issues relating to war zones. He is reactive to loud noises, dark vehicles other four legged friends when he is in on the lead. These issues relate to fear. Troy has not shown any sign of aggression, does not resource guard and in general is a big softie who loves cuddles and sleeping with his owner."
SIZE: Large (65 cm shoulder height / 40 kilos)
SPAYED/NEUTERED: Yes
CHARACTER HIGHLIGHTS: Loving, Patient, Well-balanced, Loyal
DOGS: Good (female dogs recommended), but meed correct introduction and can be reactive on the lead.
CATS: not tested
CHILDREN: Prefers older children (14+) due to his size
๐ถ TROY arrived to UK in the first days of August and went to a trial, but unfortunately it didn't work. This is what his family says:
"Iโm sorry but I have to hand Troy back. He is reactive to black cars, horses, some dogs, gun shots on the television, also not keen on wind and rain. Heโs the most beautiful dog but it's a lot for me to deal with. My house is too small for a large dog who loves zoomies. He does not like being left. No sign of aggression at this point and responds to sit, stay and down the basics and is a quick learner. You can have food, treats and chews for him too. He is a gentle giant and with help will blossom into a fabulous pet but needs a large home. He is also great with my 14 year old granddaughter."
๐ถ TROY was fading away in his large shelter crate, consumed by loneliness and longing for love. His story is one of ups and downs, of hopes raised and then dashed, of belief and despair.
๐ถ TROY once had a family and could never have imagined that one day his world would crumble. War forced his family to flee abroad, leaving TROY behind in an empty backyard. Some neighbours let him out so he could try to survive as a stray, finding food on his own. But the people in that town were not pleased to encounter a large, unfamiliar dog roaming the streets, and someone even tried to shoot him. Thankfully, they missed, but it became evident that humans would not stop, and TROY would not survive there among cruel people who did not appreciate his loving nature. However, life in the shelter is also taking its toll on TROY, albeit more slowly than a bullet. Day by day, he deteriorates, showing signs of distress by gnawing at his fur. If dogs could consider suicide, he might have. All he needs is a familyโhis familyโwhom he would serve with every fibre of his being until his last breath.
A few months ago, we shared TROYโs story, and it seemed a miracle had occurred. A kind lady in Ukraine, moved by his plight, decided to adopt him. She and her husband, along with their other dog and two cats, welcomed TROY into their flat. She was amazed at how good he wasโcalm and friendly with everyone. But their dog wouldnโt accept TROY, barking incessantly and refusing to calm down. Despite TROYโs patience and calmness, the husband couldnโt cope, and after just two days, TROY was sent back to the shelter.
Yet, the lady didnโt give up. She said she had never met such an amazing dog and decided to fight for him. After a few days of tears and arranging for the best positive reinforcement behaviourist, TROY returned to her home. With the behaviourist's help, their resident dog promptly accepted TROY, and they became friends. TROY fully recovered from his shelter trauma, and family was enjoying almost two months of joy and love. But then, the war intervened once again. Her husband was called to the front line, leaving her alone with two dogs and two cats in a city flat. She has a job and can no longer manage all the animals on her own. She had to take hard decision and has asked the rescue to find TROY a new home. She has taken a leave from work now but needs to return to work in August. If no home is found, TROY will have to go back to the shelter, and he may not survive such heartbreak again.
I am writing in the hope that there is a family out there for TROY: a family that is committed and loving, where TROY can bloom into the most loving and loyal lifelong companion.
๐ถ TROY would ideally suit a dog-loving family with previous experience with large dogs and who are active enough to provide TROY with at least two decent walks a day. TROY lived in a flat, but we believe he would thrive in a home with a good-sized garden. TROY has shown no aggression towards other dogs, but if he joins a family with another dog, we suggest it be a female to avoid any potential competition so usual between male dogs. TROY is trustworthy and great with people of all ages, but considering his size, we recommend a home with children over 14.
Please consider being TROY's rescuer and save his soul. Do not apply simply based on comparison; apply if you are committed to making the world a better place by giving TROY the love and good life he truly deserves.
๐ถ TROY has no known health issues. Castrated vaccinated, microchipped. Brucella C. tested.
