Description
Marcus is a beautiful ginger and white boy with the most gorgeous floofy tail, fluffy pantaloons and crimped ears, all typical of the breed. He is a fun loving goofball, high in energy and ready to play or go walkies at a moments notice. He especially loves a good noisy game of Tuggie and is getting really good at scentwork. Another favourite of his is back garden agility, he loves to run through tunnels or go around obstacles and boy, can he jump!
Marcus is a Kokoni, originally from Cyprus, who has been with his current family in the UK for nearly 4 years. Due to a tragic change in circumstances whereby Marcus’ family now have to care permanently for a baby, we need to find Marcus a new safe and loving home.
He is full of fun and loves to play, but does have a few special requirements like most of us; he is small in size, around 7.5kg but thinks that he is a much bigger dog at times!
Marcus needs a quiet home as he is quite a worried little boy. He is rather anxious and tends to bark quite loudly at the postman or delivery drivers, but does become calm with visitors once properly introduced. He really needs a rural location where he can go for long peaceful walks and enjoy his favourite sniff trails. Are you patient and understanding? Can you offer Marcus a relaxed home and help him keep calm whilst having fun together? He is best as an only animal in the house, as he has decided that cats now need an occasional chase, much to their disgust!
Marcus was found in a supermarket car park, thought to have been abandoned either there or nearby. He was thought to be around a year old but the rescuers had no idea how long he was living rough, only that he gave signs of having had a home before. Due to this early trauma, Marcus has an obsession with food, probably because he often went hungry. He can resource guard food quite seriously and needs careful handling; with the right care this is managed well and he will now even accept careful hand feeding, which is great for taking medication etc. It is not advised that Marcus is homed with children due to the resource guarding risk; adults understand this far better than children. His owner has worked hard on understanding him and helping Marcus to cope with his instinctive behaviour and can advise further. Simple measures are currently in place and if respected, problems rarely arise. On the other hand, his food obsession makes him very easy to train, he will do anything for treats! He loves to spin, weave, sit and shake hands and as mentioned, he is very good at scentwork, finding a particular scent tin that has been hidden. He also likes to pop between your legs and “walk” on your feet, or just dance with you as you lift your feet up!
He loves a comfy chair, but might not want to share it, especially if he’s tired. He is also wary of feet near to him if he is lying on the floor; his owners think that he may have been kicked at some point, as he is sometimes very guarded and easily upset by feet that are too near to him. Marcus also tends to be a bit precious about his gorgeous floofy tail, he worries about it being stood on, but he will now allow a brush on his beautiful fluffy coat and ears and seems to enjoy it.
He is a complete lovable rogue, delivering kisses and jumping on your knee with a silly grin on his face, getting very excited, although conversely he sometimes forgets how to ask for cuddles when he needs them the most; he can appear a bit snappy when actually he is unhappy and desperately wants loves. Whilst Marcus comes across as a bit of a “hard man”, he actually needs lots of loves and touches but sometimes doesn’t know how to ask for it. Deep down he is an emotional little boy who is unsure of how to behave, but with coaxing and loving he learns to trust and enjoy the contact. He reacts really well to TTouch and gentle massages and finds these relaxing, often pawing for more if you stop! Can you give this boy lots of love and reassurance, as well as a massage? He will reward you with unconditional loyalty and there will be so much laughter at his crazy antics!
He is clean and dry in the home, he is very happy to take himself off to the secure garden via the dog flap, no matter what the weather. Admittedly he’s not very keen on going out when it’s very heavy rain, but he still gets on with his business like a trooper.
Oh and he loves the television or screens, he gets quite excited watching TV! Sometimes he shouts at animals on the screen, but the family have have worked on this and he now can sit quietly on the armchair and seems to enjoy the programmes!
The family are reluctant to part with Marcus, but recognise that their situation is adding additional stress to an already anxious boy. Could you be what Marcus needs; a quiet loving home where he is the only pet? He is still a young dog, with so much energy and love to give, he really is a proper loving fluff-pot. With your help he could have a calm, relaxed and very happy life. He really adores people in the house all day, although like most dogs he will take himself off for a sneaky snooze on a comfy chair. Do you work from home, or are you around for most of the time? Marcus would love to keep you company if so!
Marcus would need a secure garden where he can play and chase a ball ...
