We are regrettably having to rehome our nearly 1 year old golden retriever Herbie,
We got him at 10 weeks old from a breeder, we struggled with resource guarding when he was younger and he did bite me twice, this is something we spoke to a behaviourist about who suggested taking away all his toys so he had nothing to guard but we have two young children (nearly 4 and 2) who he tries to take toys/food from there hands and has nipped them a few times and now understandably they don’t like Herbie near them and as they are home 90% of the time Herbie is now in the kitchen most of the day, I’ve tried to make it work but I feel like I’m fighting a loosing battle and it’s not fair on anyone especially Herbie who deserves so much more as he is a big softy who just wants to play and have cuddles!
He’s up to date with all injections and flea and worming tablets, we think he was allergic to chicken when he was younger but he seems to be ok with small bits now, mainly house trained although he sometimes has accidents in the kitchen during the night, we have cats but they won’t go anywhere near him either so can’t say how he would be with cats.
He’s tries to eat everything and anything he can including socks which the first one was a vet trip for an endoscopy but they now pass straight through him as he’s 30kg!
He gets on with other dogs and plays nicely with them
Please message if you would like to know anymore information about Herbie, we just want him to go to a good home preferably someone with dog experience so they know how to handle him and he doesn’t get rehomed again and have all the fuss and attention he deserves!
