Ruby is a 5 year old working Irish setter currently in County Durham. Ruby is originally from Northern Ireland and was brought to England when she was a young pup where it is thought she was unfortunately kennelled for most of her time there. Thankfully she found herself a loving new home and has been there for 3.5 years now and taught her what life was really about and helped her gain a lot of confidence that she was lacking due to her rough start. Sadly, she now needs to find a new home, which has been a devastating blow to her current family who love her to bits.
Ruby is a wonderful girl with a great character. She’s a typical working setter in many ways. She’s happy around people and typically loves attention, including having her belly rubbed! She adores playing with a tennis ball and loves being outside, especially in a secure field where she can stretch those legs without having to worry about the usual setter recall! Between walks, she’s very happy to find the nearest sofa or bed to snooze the day away.
Although Ruby hasn’t lived with a resident dog in her family, she has been with a relative and their wirehaired pointer and coped well sharing her space with another dog. She is fed separately as Ruby’s background means that even though she’s had a steady supply of food for years now, she’s always a bit worried where her next meal will come from and can be anxious around food, so she gets a safe space to eat any meals of high value treats where she feels safe. She has local dog friends she’s made on her walks as well so we believe she could live with a resident dog as well as continuing to be an only dog.
Ruby’s ideal family would be in a quiet home with no children and preferably a rural setting. She can get worried by the noise of traffic but loves countryside walks, even more when there’s birds about – she is a setter after all! Ruby has not been cat tested so needs a cat free home.
