Raven – 12-Month-Old Labrador Boy
Fostered in Gloucestershire in an adult family home with other dogs and visiting grandchildren.
Raven’s young life has been a bit of a rollercoaster. From what we’ve learned, he must have had some stability at some point—but that was lost, leaving him unsettled and confused.
When he first arrived, he struggled to cope. He was highly excitable around the other dogs, constantly trying to mount them and working himself into a frenzy.
If corrected, he would bark aggressively and even show his teeth. He was restless—pacing, barking, howling—nothing like the easygoing Labrador most people expect.
But something remarkable happened. When taken out on his own, away from the group, he transformed. He walked beautifully with the grandchildren, stayed calm, and even enjoyed lunch at the pub like a perfect gentleman. That gave us a vital insight into what he needed.

The Progress So Far
🐾 Neutering & Settling: We made the decision to neuter him straight away. While some of his behavior stemmed from anxiety, a lot of it was fueled by raging hormones. Just a week later, he’s already a much calmer, more settled dog. He’s still occasionally a bit of a ‘love pest’ with the boys, but it has eased significantly. He now sleeps peacefully in his foster carer’s room and is far more relaxed in the home.
This has slowly decreased

No problems around food

🏡 House Manners: He’s clean in the house and travels well in the car.
🐕 Socialization & Training: The biggest breakthrough was taking him on a pack walk with 10 other dogs. He was fantastic—off-lead, well-mannered, and showed superb recall.
He also met plenty of other dogs along the way with no issues.

What Raven Needs
Raven is a work in progress, but his potential is huge. He’s clearly had some training in the past, and with the right people, he will thrive. However, in the wrong hands, things could go badly for him—so we have to get this right.
So much potential

✅ An experienced home—someone familiar with dogs who have had an unsettled or unpredictable past.
✅ Positive, reward-based training—old-school dominance methods will not work with him. He needs structure, kindness, and clear boundaries.
✅ Plenty of exercise & mental stimulation—he’s a clever, active dog who would excel in agility, scent work, or even a working role.
✅ Best as an only dog or with a calm female—he currently lives with an older female dog and ignores her. With other dogs, he is actually quite submissive—if challenged, he backs down rather than reacting aggressively.
Continued so
socialization will be key to keeping him well-balanced around other dogs.
A Bright Future
In the right hands, Raven will be a fantastic companion. He is intelligent, eager to learn, and, despite his difficult start, not a complicated dog when given the right support. He just needs the right home to guide him forward.
Raven will be neutered, fully vaccinated, wormed/flea-treated, and microchipped before leaving our care.
If you think you could be the perfect home for Raven, we’d love to hear from you!
