Description
Egu arrived in his new home in July and despite a very promising start, sadly his new home isn’t working out and his adopters have made the really heartbreaking decision that he would be happier elsewhere. Egu, now called Iggy, is best described as a big love bug. He’s a really sweet and gentle soul who wormed his way into his adopters hearts the moment he walked through the door in the way that setters often do! He’s generally an easy going and docile boy and although he’s certainly got his setter traits, he’s more laid back than some and not as energetic- which some may say is a good thing! He learns really quickly, especially when it comes to home comforts like cosy beds and sofas, and is food motivated meaning he’s done really well with his training so far. Sadly we’ve come to learn that Iggy has some potential arthritis in two of his legs as well as some muscle wastage from his past life which needs some help. Unfortunately, on a couple of occasions, he seems to have associated that pain with his female adopter and is now extremely worried by her and feels really uncomfortable with her around. While some dogs mask pain really well and Iggy certainly doesn’t show it in other aspects, it’s clearly affected him a lot. He is now on a pain trial with the vets but daily life is becoming a real struggle in the household; making sure Iggy’s needs are met while having to be separated from one of his adopters who would usually provide his day to day care. Sadly, he is much happier when she is not in the house which is heartbreaking for everyone involved. With other females, Iggy is his usual self, a total big softie with a heart of gold. He has big expressive eyes and the most wonderful smile. He’s happiest when you’ve got some tasty treats of playing find it games in a field. Whilst he does have some prey drive, it’s not like a lot of working setters meaning it’s more manageable on walks. He travels very well in the car and is generally very quiet at home, snoozing the day away while his adopter works from home and greeting people at the baby gate with a waggy bum and tail when they get home. His favourite spot in the house is in the kitchen, near the good stuff while food is being prepared! And his thick gorgeous coat means he’s fond of lying on cooler surfaces although his sweetest trait is the way he fits himself into the tiniest spot on the sofa for a cuddle. Iggy currently lives with a resident dog which helps with his confidence. He’s not generally a nervous dog but would still benefit from work on his confidence like most rescue dogs. He can get a bit worried by other dogs on his walks if he’s tired (and possibly in pain) but is much happier with a little space and has had some lovely interactions with other dogs with the work put in by his adopter. He walks really nicely on his lead and since he loves food so much, he responds really well to positive reinforcement training. Iggy is looking for a quiet, child free home to find his feet again and decompress. He’d do best with a resident dog in the house to help his confidence and kind and patient adopters who will continue the work put in with his current home and are happy to follow up with vets to help manage any pain. He passed his cat test in Spain and does currently live with cats which he is being introduced to very slowly so while he could live with cats, introductions would need to be done correctly and not rushed to ensure a positive relationship.
