Description
Thaliya is a 6 year old 15.3 thoroughbred mare who requires an experienced owner who understands thoroughbreds.
Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I just don’t have the time she needs in order to progress as she does require some investment, and I’ve come to terms with the fact that she requires a more experienced and confident owner.
Generally, she has a very sweet nature. She will always come to you in the field, loves attention and is very affectionate and loving. She can be left in her stable for days (e.g when weather is awful) or out 24/7 and is not bothered by anything at all. She is not one to run about and get involved in drama or injure herself in the field - food is too interesting for that!
However, she can be difficult and a little hot headed at times (classic thoroughbred style..). She is very strong minded with a big personality, and if she doesn’t feel like cooperating, she won’t. So, she needs someone who will work with her on the ground first and who can communicate well with her, make her understand that you won’t be a push over and that she can trust you.
She is very intelligent and does learn quickly - she just requires consistency and confidence, which I can’t give her.
Hacking wise, she loves to explore and generally is very relaxed and happy, although sometimes she might get a little anxious and back up. With some encouragement and confidence though, she will proceed and she has never done anything dangerous on a hack such as rearing, spinning or bucking. In fact, she is quite often braver than our 25 year old cob around scary objects (like branches on the floor).
There have been times where I’ve not ridden her for a month or two, and been able to get on her for a hack with no drama - she’s not one of those that needs to be consistently worked in order to keep calm. In fact, the less work, the happier she is 😅
In the school though, she is challenging but has never been consistently schooled to get through the issues - she does not relax or go forward, and looks for excuses to get out of work through spooking. She shows potential and just needs someone with experience to get through the baby moments, or a home where she can simply hack.
She has done some flat work, poles and mini jumps, and gets excited at the sight of those. I would classify her as completely untrained though - green and requires a fresh start schooling wise.
Ultimately, she needs someone confident, firm but fair, who will not be intimidated by her strong personality. She is an incredibly clever horse and learns quick, so you have to be one step ahead of her otherwise she might outsmart you.
She has been barefoot for almost 3 years with no issues, has had saddle, teeth, and jabs done in the past 2 months. She is good to load - will normally go in on her own - although she hasn’t been transported for a while, so might need some encouragement at first.
I’m not desperate to sell quick as she needs to go to a good home, so happy to answer any and all questions and will be fully transparent.
Please message me for more information! I have loads of videos of her being lunged, schooled, hacked, loading, leading (including difficult moments), etc. I will show you the good and the bad, as she (like 99% of horses) comes with both 😊
