Description
ARCHIE
Archie was 5 years old lastJuly, he is a neutered male, French Bulldog who is being fostered in Tipton, West Midlands. He is around 12kg in weight.
Archie came into care at the end of May last year after we learned that his then owners had booked him in to be euthanized, because they couldn't afford the vet treatment he needed. They were also afraid to handle him,
We were told that they hadn't had him very long and that they had themselves, rescued him from an abusive situation.
It's true that Archie was a hot mess when he arrived, both physically and mentally.
Within the week he had much needed boas surgery which involved multiple procedures to enable him to breath. He was also neutered at the same time. He has now transformed into a totally different dog.
Prior to these procedures, simply breathing took huge effort, with his tummy muscles heaving to enable air to be pulled into his lungs. Everything he ate and drank would be regurgitated multiple times before it would stay down.
Being entire meant he would lift his leg around the house and he would hump like crazy.
Unsurprisingly this exhausted, frustrated and abused little boy was snappy and hard to handle, he also showed signs of separation anxiety.
However, after just a few short weeks this all changed and Archie is now an adorable, playful, rather naughty chap. He can also be stubborn and will answer back if he's being told "No"!!
He loves his walks, (there's no pulling on the lead) and greets other dogs nicely.
He's well behaved around my own Cavie dogs too and will only trot after the cats if they react to him first. There's been NO sign of guarding behavior or food aggression, but he is fed separately in his crate
He sleeps peacefully in his large crate, which is also his safe place, and he can be left for short periods without upset. He will however, follow you around the house if allowed , because he likes to be with you.
Because of his history of being snappy we will not be homing him where there are young children or very vulnerable adults. He can still be snappy if you try to force him to do something or when you try to clip his nails, which makes bathing and vets visits very interesting! But Archie is a quick learner and responds well to treats and kindness, which has reduced his stress levels hugely.
He needs owners who will handle him gently but firmly, who knows the breed and are prepared to give him the time he needs to adjust to yet another house move.
