Description
This is our boy, Rupert. He is an extremely lovable but excitable dog and a huge part of our family, who we would miss greatly. Being a mixed breed, shar pei and springer, he has a lot of energy but can also be rather protective of our home and will bark at any visitors. His bark is definitely worse than his bite, as he usually licks them to death once they are in. Rupert has been a part of our family since he was a puppy and we are having to regretfully rehome him due to us not having enough time for him. Unfortunately, we do not feel that his needs are currently being met as we have a 3 year old and another baby on the way. We just don’t have the time to give him the walks and training he requires. We took him to work with a dog behaviourist when our daughter was born, who gave us a long training report with things we could do at home, to help him settle more. We have, unfortunately, not had the time to work on these things with him. We would be happy to share this training report with any potential new owners.
Although he is amazing with our little girl, we would like to rehome him in a home without young children as he hasn’t had experience of being around many young children and we do not know how he would be with unfamiliar children. Due to his excitable nature, he would also be likely to knock a young child over (many times a day!!), which is not ideal. We also think he would need to be an only dog, as he would require lots of attention. That being said, he has always been really good with other dogs whilst out on walks etc.
Please feel free to message with any other questions. As I said previously, this is a very hard decision for us to make, and we will only be happy with the very best home for him. We would like to rehome him relatively local to us in Southampton and would like to stay in contact with the new owners.
