Description
Winston is a 2.5 yrs old Cyprus Hound Mix boy currently in a foster home in Hereford in the UK
Winston found himself dumped in a small village in Cyprus and was in a truly fearful state. He spent a while in a small shelter but seemed unable to really trust his care givers and was quickly shutting down – we can only imagine the horrors he had suffered at the hands of humans to evoke this emotional stress. The decision was made to find Winston a foster home in the UK so that he can learn how to be a dog again, to learn to trust again and to build his confidence.
Winston has been in his foster home now for almost 3 months and has come such a long way from the frightened soul who arrived in the UK in October. He has a wonderful foster mum and companion dog who have helped him in so many ways. He is a work in progress but we feel he's ready for his forever home where his journey can continue.
Winston knows to go outside to do all he needs to , now fully houstrainec . He can be left for a few hours in the house with his companion dog and doesn't do anything untoward often sleeping peacefully and waiting . He doesn’t chew and is not destructive .
Winston loves going out in the garden and exploring, he's now more familiar with going out for walks , learning to navigate a busy road and all it brings the outside world could be a , recently he's become more confidence but this is a work in progress. He loves nothing more than curling up on the sofa and will, in his own time, sometimes join his foster mum for a little cuddle. He can be nervous around food, it's better to leave his food for him to eat in his own time.
Winston is a lovely playful dog who adores playing with his toys. He has learned so much in the last few months, and picks things up very quickly, but he still needs gentle training. He loves other dogs, his companion dog , has taught him lots of things. He would be happy with another dog in the house or dogs that visit regularly and with calm humans who are around most of the time. We think a household with older dog savvy children would be OK .
Winston would be better suited to a home that's quiet and gentle . Patience will win the day with him ! His new people need to understand that Winston will bring countless hours of fun and joy in time, but will require a home that understands he will need immense love, patience and reassurance and to be allowed to move forward at his own pace.
We'd advise Potential adopters visited him on more than one occasion to eastablish some trust , living locally or being prepared to travel to meet hom more than once would be an advantage .
Winston deserves a loving forever home now . He's been through so much but also come so far ! We are looking for special people who feel able to give Winston the environment he needs , full of love , patience, a willingness to train with kindness but above all to love Winston unconditionally, we know once he trusts, he will return that love back in bucketfuls.
