Rescue Story
MARTIN’s story begins in Toretsk, a town devastated by the war in Donbass. Alongside his brother CHOCO, MARTIN was born to a stray mum struggling to survive in a place of constant chaos. Volunteers braved incredible dangers to save MARTIN and other abandoned animals, risking their own safety in a town under constant threat.
The rescue was nothing short of miraculous, with volunteers shielding the pups from drones and shelling as they carried them to safety. MARTIN’s quiet resilience and gentle spirit are a testament to his will to survive and thrive despite his harsh beginnings.
What MARTIN’s Current Family Says
MARTIN settled quickly into his foster home and revealed himself to be “an affectionate, polite pup with a cheeky, playful side.” His foster parents describe how he started off understandably shy and unsure but soon gained their trust:
“After just a few days, we saw him come out of his shell. It’s been wonderful to watch him thrive and feel comfortable around us. He gets on very well with our dog, Charlie, and knows when to stop if Charlie isn’t in the mood for play. MARTIN loves his food—he’s been eating Nature’s Menu raw food with kibble and absolutely loves it. He also settles beautifully when I work from home, sleeping quietly on his bed for hours.”
MARTIN has made progress with his confidence on walks, though he still finds some situations overwhelming. “He wasn’t sure about stairs at first, but with patience and chicken, he now runs up and down confidently! He’s doing really well with traffic and has enjoyed calm walks in quiet parks. He’s cautious with new people but warms up quickly when given space and time.”
Unfortunately, an incident occurred during a walk when MARTIN was spooked by a child dragging a scooter while being held. He reacted out of fear and nipped his foster Dad that resulted in a small (around 1,5 cm) cut or scratch on the finger pad, probably because hand was quickly pulled away. “It happened so fast, but we know it was an isolated moment, not aggression. He’s such a gentle boy, and this was completely out of character for him.”
This incident has led the family to make the heartbreaking decision not to adopt MARTIN, as they regularly host young children and feel they can’t meet his specific needs. “ It all happened very quickly and me and my partner are both very saddened by this, as we really started to warm to him, and wanted to adopt him after the foster period. However, we have young nephews and nieces and we have to be realistic about the situation. Martin is not an aggressive or dangerous dog by any means. However, he is sometimes anxious. On the night when we picked him up, he let us pick him up and hold him when he was likely in the greatest state of stress, and he showed no signs of wanted to bite.”
The Ideal Home for MARTIN
MARTIN would thrive in a happy active, dog loving and patient household where his gentle nature is understood . A family with older children who understand his gentle nature would be ideal. His new family should be prepared to support his ongoing socialisation, helping him blossom into the loving, confident pup he’s meant to be.
MARTIN has already shown how much love he has to give. If you can offer him the understanding and care he deserves, he’ll repay you with endless loyalty and affection. Reach out to give MARTIN the home he’s been waiting for!
Health Information
MARTIN is fully healthy, has all core vaccines done, and is microchipped. He is not neutered due to his young age (neuter agreement applies). All dogs are C.Brucella tested before the trip (owners will receive a licensed laboratory test certificate).
