TYPE OF HOME: Adult only, quiet, rural, no cats.
It takes a special kind of person to take on a special kind of boy like Ralphie.
We would love Ralphie to find a long term foster home or adoptive home. Ideally this would be in the area surrounding Immingham or Worcestershire, so his new family had access to all the support they need. Ralphie is very much loved by those who care for him at the kennels and we all want to see him living successfully in a home.
Ralphie does show some reactivity, which is purely based on fear. He is an incredibly intelligent lad who picks up on things really quickly. He responds amazingly to training, as long as there’s some form of sausage reward involved. He's been learning to wear his smart new custom made muzzle, and has done so well!
His reactivity has improved hugely since moving to a more rural based kennels, although he does like the odd lunge at a tractor! He is no longer reactive walking past ‘strange’ people or other dogs. This is due to consistent training which his new fosterer/adopter would need to continue with.
Despite being a Shepherd mix, Ralphie shows no guarding behaviours towards the people and dogs he loves. He is happy to share his humans alongside other dogs. He is also happy to share toys & will even sit nicely next to another dog for a treat.
Ralphie needs:
• to live in a rural area.
• a home without cats or children.
• to meet his fosterers several times before they take him home.
• to have a 'safe place' to go to when visitors come over.
• to continue his training, including muzzle training.
• to possibly live with another dog but he would have to meet his potential sister/brother several times before.
• his fosterer to have an understanding that he isn’t the most straightforward dog but he'll be the best decision you'll ever make.
