Description
Fernando & Ami: two little haus-panthers, or batmen or vicars with their little ‘priest’s collar’ tuft of white hair. They were born feral and didn’t have any socialisation with humans during the first crucial weeks of their lives, and also were apparently completely bald covered with fleas. Luckily, that’s now in the past and they have the sleekest, shiniest black fur with very solid bodies. They are slowly getting comfy with home life and getting more confident day by day. While they look like little carbon copies of each other, they have wonderfully distinct personalities – and easy to tell apart once you know how! They are a real brother and sister. Sometimes they’ll cuddle up together, but other times they’ll want to assert their independence and sleep in their own space. Ami in particular likes a space low down – under the bed, in a box or in the cat tree. Fernando is happy to be higher up on the cat tree or on the window sill, though sometimes he will pop down and spend time with Ami. Fernando is very curious - he’ll be the first to explore and definitely the first to play. He will jump and chase and enjoy himself completely. Ami is a more timid (with a delightfully worried expression). She will usually follow Fernando when she realises he’s been gone for a while and she is on her own, or after he has started playing, she’ll join in, but she still isn’t sure of her cat hunting abilities! On the other hand, food is the way to her heart and she is definitely the first at meal-time. She will even come right up and have treats from my hand merrily purring away. However, they are both still getting used to living with humans and will usually retreat to a safe space and watch you first and they still are learning that sudden movements or appearances from humans aren’t bad. Once they both decide you are okay, they are generally okay, and Fernando will now even hop on the bed with me, while keeping his distance. They are however, both very comfortable around other cats – Fernando especially loves my cat (even when he doesn’t love him back and makes that quite clear) and have adapted really well to the other fosters here, in fact becoming good friends with another kitten. There doesn’t seem to be an aggressive bone in their bodies, they are much more on the peace maker / timid side. I’m not sure how they’d have coped on the mean streets. So they’d very happily join a household with other cats and would make a good companion for an older cat. They are also incredibly neat when eating and with the litter box and even when playing - no high octane knocking things over or climbing up curtains for them – they love track toys and chasing wand toys especially. They also tend to enjoy nap time and usually have quite long snoozes during the day and at night when no one is around. Though they would benefit probably from more human time. They’ll make a lovely additional to a household where you can really see them grow and develop.
