Description

NAME: TUX (aka Mr. Tuxedo) SEX: Male SIZE: Medium (24kg / 57cm to shoulder) DoB: January 2023 BREED: Hound cross LOCATION: Foster home in Scotland After his home fell through only 2 weeks in through no fault of his own, Tux was moved to a wonderful foster home in Scotland where he has settled in beautifully! In his foster home Tux is living with 2 other male dogs and has settled in beautifully. Over to his foster mum who has sent us a wonderful write up for him: Handsome, charming, adaptable, self-confident, and sooo friendly and trusting! He has been friendly and trusting with every human he's met. His dog manners seem to be fantastic- his friendliness and self-confidence seem to create this really nice balance for other dogs. It's a "I want to be friend but you can't push me around” energy and that really defuses any tension. Tux is darkest chocolate. He trots absolutely everywhere and his spotty socks mean that it looks like he's tap dancing all the time. Everybody comments on the little ridge of hair running up his nose. It looks like a tiny cute mohawk. He has a lovely calm demeanour, but he's also very playful and silly when it's time. He flops off the couch onto the floor and he runs circles around Toby. Though I think he would be adaptable enough to be happy in any household, I think his perfect house has another young dog or possibly a child. Tux's greatest wish in life is to be chased over and over and over. He teases Toby until Toby gives in and obliges. He seems very trainable and is food motivated in the house. He's almost completely house trained though he does try and lift his leg for marking occasionally. In general he responds very well to a small correction noise so you're able to keep him from marking, paws up on the counter, etc. He rarely jumps up but he does like to crawl up you with his front paws for a good cuddle. He loves to cuddle up with you on the couch or bed. He has a very nice sit and will do a lovely sit for his food bowl. He has quickly learned how to be called to come inside and to be told to wait and not come through a door with me. He's beautifully behaved while you're cooking and during meal times. He also likes to follow you around while you do chores and just check on everything you're doing. Naughty moments are typical new dog behaviour, stealing a bath mat, mouthing a pillow, trying to get to a treat on the counter etc. if you've got a plushie to hand, he's easy to redirect. He'll also playfully mouth on you but it's always very gentle. For walks he presents his head to be put into the harness. I wouldn't say that he's fully lead trained as he does pull and sometimes he seems confused about where he's going. But he seems comfortable on the lead and doesn't fight being in it. His pulling is stronger as he has gotten more comfortable but an average adult wouldn't have a problem with his strength. He is not food motivated on walks as he's far too busy but he is responsive to verbal cues. I haven't done proper lead training yet but he's responded well to "We don't go further until you check in with me" technique. He's walked on a dual lead with either of my boys and done well. He is friendly and happy to meet every person and dog we've come across. I haven't seen him be reactive to anything. I dropped and broke a plate in the same room as him and he had no problem. We've passed traffic, barking dogs, cats, sheep, and he has been mellow for all of it. (I'm now remembering he barked at our robot vacuum but we didn't properly introduce him as we forgot it would come on at its scheduled time) He certainly has a prey drive (especially likes tracking mouse and vole hideaways in the garden) but he doesn't lose his mind and can be moved on fairly easily. He's met lots of people and dogs as we have a bit of a dog co-op on our street with neighbours so the dogs are in and out of each others houses. He's happy and friendly with everyone and had no problem in the different houses. He's met a child and he behaved perfectly but she was being very calm so I'm going to do another meeting where they have the chance to possibly play. He. is. incredible. I really wish we could keep him. Whoever adopts him is hitting the jackpot! SPDC adoption package and homechecks apply
