Description

This is our monty.he is 3 & a half years old.we have had him since he was 9 weeks old. Sadly we are looking to rehome monty. For the last year we have waited on rescues & had help from the vet but we really need to find monty a forever home ASAP. Monty has lived with a cat and my children. We need to rehome monty because we can sadly no longer give him the time and training he needs. Monty was medically castrated in January as we decided with the vet this was the best option for him. He can still be castrated or you can have another implant around 7-9 months after the first one. Monty has had his first puppy Jabs both sets but never any more. He suffered a reaction that meant we almost lost him and so with guidance from the vet we have not continued his vaccinations. We believe it may have been a kennel cough vaccine reaction but without taking a chance again and risking his health we won't know. We are happy for the new family to contact our vet who is more than happy to talk you through anything about monty. Monty has in the past been reactive to some dogs. He doesn't like dogs who jump all over him and is protective over his home. After his medical castration we have seen an improvement in this. Monty is fine around our children but I would prefer him to go to a home with older teenagers or no children as monty is the type of dog who enjoys his own space and can growl if he is disturbed when asleep. He will approach you for affection and prefers not to be approached by strangers. Monty is only walked on a lead as due to his dislike of some dogs we prefer to avoid any confrontation that could be caused if a dog runs towards him. As monty will react if he feels the other dog is a threat. The vet agreed this is not aggressive behaviour he is protective of his space and his people and doesn't want others dogs in his space without him inviting them. Monty lived with our English pointer until he passed away 2 years ago and enjoys playing with my father in law cocker spaniel. Monty had his eyes tacked at 8 weeks and has never had any other issues with them. We clean his ears weekly and a monthy bath which he is happy for us to do. Although new owners may have to gain his trust before he allows this as he is a typical shar pei and is alouf around people he is wary of. Monty is not a sofa dog. He likes his own bed and own space and will come and sit on your feet when he wants a fuss. Equally he hates stairs. He will go up stairs but expect to be carried down or will reluctantly come down very slowly if my husband isnt home to carry him. He knows basic commands. Sit. Down. Paw. Back. Come etc he will not eat his food until you say he can. He won't take food from hands of people he doesn't know either. And he is a fuss pot with treats. He likes boar bites and liver over dry dog treats. He will drink his water very cold and will refuse it if it gets warm (room temp) . Monty has has a small skin issue in the past that gave him an itchy tail that he did bite at. Hes fur has virtyally regrown now. We think we worked out it was shake and vac he laid on and since we have stopped using it he has healed up. The vet was seen about this and agreed it was a reaction to something on the skin. I hadnt realised he had laid out on the carpet before id hoovered it up. monty is a lovely dog who my family and I adore we have not taken this rehoming lightly and there will be many tears shed when he goes but we know we can't give monty what he needs any longer as we have had a huge change is circumstances and as much as we have tried over the last 18 months to make this an avoidable option its become very clear that we can't give him the time he needs now and the life he deserves. Monty will enjoy a walk but doesn't like huge amounts of excersise. He will lay down and refuse to go further if he's tired until he sees you have turned round to go home. He lives with a cat who they share a bed together most nights and he's never shown any aggression towards neighbours cats in our garden. Monty loves a ball mainly tennis balls although he will charge about with a football. He will also drop it if you ask him to but won't play fetch for too long. A few throws and he will give up and lay down (typical pei) if there is anything else you want to know please message me. A message is the best place to start with me as im not always available to answer calls but happy to arrange a time to chat. We won't be letting monty go to just any home. So if you think you can give monty a home with lots of patience and calm and are willing to help with his training when it comes to other dogs then please get in touch. Our vet will happily give you any details you want on monty. We aren't asking for money for monty, all we ask if for the new owners to change his microchip at their own expense and give monty his forever home.
