DescriptionA honest description, regarding one of my boys, sweetpea. Sweetpea is nearly 8 months old un-neutered chocolate brown coloured guinea pig. His mum, was not maternal, so I had to hand raise him. (Naughty dad escaped from his cage). Sweetpea has always been very cute, however does have a very strong independent manner, and he can not be kept in direct contact with other piggies, as he will attack them. Being his age he constantly has sex on the mind and displays dominance towards my other very laid back and quiet male and female piggies, which is causing alot of upset to the other piggies as well as Sweetpea. Sweetpea, due to his 'independent mind' does not like be sat on anyone's knees for long periods, however is easily bribed with cucumber, grapes and carrots. ( have to be careful when feeding carrots as he often goes through the carrot and bites fingers by accident) Once the food is finished he will be jumping around and on his back legs again. He doesn't like being brushed or stroked for long. (Will often toss his head in the air to indicate he is done with brushing and hugs, as well as headbutt your hand'. He will often try and hold your fingers when you are clipping his nails, so patience is needed and often a carrot will help.
Sweetpea would be ideally suited to a adults only home. Someone who doesn't have other piggies, or is willing to have him neutered so he can live with a older more knowledgeable female piggy who will put him in his place. He can be a vert sweet and cheeky boy, however with his dominance and aggressive behaviour towards other piggies, I feel he needs a 'one to one' home, knowledge on guinea pigs is a must. Sweetpea is no way suitable as a child's pet due to him being very active and his dominant ways.
