DescriptionKeelo š¾
Applications are now open for Keelo. Please share around and get in touch if you'd like to offer this little lad a home.
About:
Keelo is Roughly 10 months and is a small intact male Malinois. Keelo was left at the vets by his previous owners to be put to sleep. (Physiological signs such as burst blood vessels in his left eye would indicate high levels of stress or physical trauma.)
Good bits:
-Despite his rocky start, he's a very cuddly dog and has bonded exceptionally closely to my family during his stay. After the occasional initial concern, he also is very friendly around strangers. (Better with women.)
-He has thoroughly enjoyed the presence of my female shepherd and play has been balanced, (+very acrobatic!)
-His dog neutrality is greatly improved and we can pass most dogs with only friendly interest.
-He has a good toy drive and will take food outside.
-He walks nicely on a slip.
-He enjoyed play based bitework and would be suitable for a hobby bitesport home who is willing to go slow.
-He's got a great interest in training and picks things up quick. He currently knows his markers, name, Sit, crate on cue, car manners, leash manners and half a recall.
-He has a nice settle and is crate trained.
-He is clean in the house and crate+ travels well.
-He is happy with an hour walk and 2x10 minutes of training a day.
Problems:
-He has some nerve that shows up as environmental uncertainty and occasional vocalisation towards people. (Uncommitted. ) In the house, he is slow to warm up to new people and will bark. Can be redirected with a toy.
-Food drive could definitely be better.
-Struggles around male dogs and will act defensively towards reactive dogs.
-Missing important foundations/exposure as he came to me knowing nothing
The ideal home for Keelo would be someone wanting a loving companion for a hobby based lifestyle, such as canicross, agility, low level bitework etc. My main priority is a loving, experience home. I'm advising no young children or free roaming male dogs.
Free training/support will be given.
Homes will be fully vetted and there is a rehoming fee. I will be very careful about where he goes and there will be contract that states he shall not be bred and will come back to me if you can no longer care for him.
