Barney is a 1 year old, large boy, of shepherd breed type.
Barney is a gorgeous boy who needs an adopter/fosterer who is experienced with rescue dogs and/or larger breeds, and a home with NO children, cats, or other dogs in it (although he can have doggy friends, he just doesn't like sharing his home with them). He'd love a big garden and a rural setting.
Barney is such a loving and affectionate floofy fella. He is a great dog in so many ways; he's house trained, walks well on a lead, sleeps through the night, and knows all of his basic commands. Barney is such a clever boy who has the potential to learn more, giving his humans lots of opportunities to bond with him and have lots of fun.
Barney really needs a calm, quiet space with no other dogs living with him. He is learning to be more comfortable meeting dogs out and about and will now play gently with calmer dogs.
Barney is wary of people he doesn't know, showing some fear-based reactivity to them in the form of barking - an issue for which improvement has been seen, but his training will need to be continued in his new home. If you turn away or don’t give him any reaction, he'll very quickly settle down and in no time he will take treats from you and accept bum scratches! However, we think a home where he will not need to deal with too many visitors would be best for him.
He is quite frightened of children and young people so would only be suitable to live with older teenagers who can understand what he needs, or, preferably, an adult only home.
Barney is a big bundle of wonderfulness to those who know and love him. He needs a home with someone who will be confident in giving him direction and guidance, and who has a lifestyle that will match his needs. The right person/people will be gifted with love from a dog who has so much capacity to love his human/s.
