Description
I have 2 border collies looking for a new home. Could go together or separately. They are litter mates, and we have had them since birth, so full history known.
They started their training to be sheepdogs, but unfortunately neither of them has shown much interest in that, and have both made it clear they would much rather have a different role in life. So I am reluctantly looking for the right home for them. There is no rush for them to go, it must be to the perfect place that will really suit them.
They are 16 months now; are microchipped, up to date with vaccinations/worming, both saw the vet for a checkup a couple of weeks ago and are in great health. Neither of them has ever had any injury or illness. The female has been recently spayed.
Both live in the house, are fully house trained, non-destructive, very quiet and settled in the home and can be left for short periods without anxiety. Both travel well in the car. They know their names, can be walked off lead, have great recall, walk nicely on the lead without pulling. They are used to farm traffic and have been taught to ignore people/dogs/livestock/chickens/horses/cyclists/motorbikes etc. They currently live with a cat without any issue, and ignore cats they don't know. They are very people orientated and keen to please; they are quick to train/learn. They would both like to participate in a hobby/job in their new life to keep their collie brains busy!
Male - Mick.
A larger lad, around 20kg currently and still a little gangly with some filling out to do. A happy, confident dog; a fun-loving, slightly goofy boy. A kind and gentle character. Not particularly high energy; needs a good, long off-lead walk everyday; but is otherwise happy snoozing and pottering around the house and garden. Very good with children, loves a ball game. He would love canicross, or just the chance to go off hiking and exploring with his owner on weekends and holidays. He's also a big sniffer - so mantrailing/scentwork could be a good option for him. He'd like another, older dog at home as a friend and mentor (doesn't need to be a collie - but needs to be well trained, as he looks to older dogs for guidance on what to do when he isn't sure of what you want or how to behave).
Female - Fay.
A smaller, very athletic female, around 15-16kg. Very fast, very well balanced and has a sharp mind. Really wants a 1:1 relationship with someone. Could be an only dog. Would love to be your shadow, she very happily mirrors what you are doing - will sleep if nothing is happening; but always wants to go on every outing. She can be left without fuss (she just sleeps) but looking for a home where she can go with you as much as possible. Someone whom works from home/has own business and can take dog to work/is retired would be perfect for her. She learns very fast (even for a collie) and would excel at obedience/rally/doggy dancing/tricks/hoopers etc. Probably not looking for a busy home with lots of coming and going and noisy kids. She values her peace and quiet! Visiting kids/grandkids would be fine - she is great with kids; but 24/7 noise and chaos may be too much for her. She is great with dogs she knows; and will ignore dogs she doesn't out on a walk. However, if unknown dogs run up to her on a walk and invade her personal space she will stand and bark at them; although she never does more than that, and will come to you instantly if called. She would not enjoy being left in kennels or going to doggy daycare; so looking for a home where she can come with you on holidays and trips or stay with someone she knows well. Fortunately, she is the kind of dog you can take anywhere - she is always very relaxed and reliable. She just wants to feel she is full member of the family and can be part of whatever you are doing.
