Our Delilah had her first litter on 9th April - 6 males and 1 female - we are giving them a minimum of 12 weeks with mum so they will be ready to leave at the beginning of July. The pictures show Delilah with and without her puppies, her sire Duke, and her brother Bruce. They are black nosed wheatens with dark faces and a rich chestnut coat. They will be microchipped, vet examined, vaccinated and KC registered.
Duke, the father, is ridged but Delilah is ridgeless, however all but one of her puppies (Mr Orange) are ridged. There is a body of thinking favouring breeding from ridgeless ridgebacks because they do not suffer from the same risks of cancer that (rarely) afflict ridged ridgebacks. Having a ridgeless mother, all our puppies are likely to benefit from some extra protection in this regard.
In our experience, and that of others we've met, the males are proud but very friendly. They are athletic and sleak but sleep for the majority of the day! They can be boisterous off the lead and their breed famously likes to duck, dance and dive when they play or hunt. They need big open spaces. They are not usually demanding of attention but love it when offered.
The females are better guard dogs being more alert and barking fiercely at strangers, although ours has never bitten a human or hurt another dog. They are however very affectionate to those they know.
Ridgebacks vary a lot in size and both the parents of our puppies are towards to smaller end of the spectrum - Delilah is around 35kg and the father around 40kg. Her brother Bruce is 43Kg. Some ridgebacks are upwards of 55Kg.
Once a puppy has been chosen and a deposit has been made, the future owner will be able to join our WhatsApp group in which they will be updated regularly on their puppy.
