Description

Martha & Maple British shorthair x Bengal I am rehoming my beautiful girls which was a long, hard and sad decision but unfortunately my work commitments have changed unexpectedly as well as other personal issues ongoing my time at home with them will severely decline and I know this isn’t fair on them. A little bit of backstory: Maple and Martha came to me as kittens and were very malnourished; full of fleas, had bad tummies and just generally not in a good way. They also didn’t like or couldn’t trust humans which resulted in them living in the shadows. They wouldn’t eat while people were around, they wouldn’t use the toilet until people were away. They’d walk so shallow to the floor they were literally shuffling on their tummies. Now they are very different: Maple (long hair) Maple is the more confident girly. She loves tickle and isn’t afraid to direct you with nudges to the right location. She enjoys sleeping on you and often sleeps on the bed but will relocate herself sometimes in the night. She loves to play but for short periods of time as she’s a bit of a pamper queen and takes rest as a priority. Maple has had more lasting effects of the tummy issues from her previous neglect but this isn’t required support by the vets. To support Maple we have spent time with different foods and know that food in gravy is the only foods we have found that won’t upset her tummy. For some reason jelly food can cause her to get in a pickle as her excretions are more dense and due to her long hair it can be a bit of a pickle. We have worked with maple to train her to respond to treats while letting me give her bottom a trim and this is still a developing skill. She loves to sunbathe in the window and watch the world go by and will often wait for me to come home in the living room window. Martha Martha’s progress has been much slower. She really struggles with human touch and although this has been built on she can only tolerate a little single stroke and she’ll scarper. However she is running away less and staying in the area. These interactions are motivated with treats. Martha shows her love and trust in more unconventional ways like following you around, sitting at the end of the sofa, sleeping at the end of the bed or calling out for you if you’ve closed a door on her. Martha is really playful and a lot of her bonds have been formed through lots of play. Both girls have come from such a hard upbringing and it reflects. They would benefit from a calmer environment as they can still become startled by sudden movement or loud noise. They need time and patience to ensure that they are given the right care. Both cats drink water from a fountain and can’t have milk due to it giving them both funny tummies. (Sometimes I’ll give watered down milk as a treat) They are very much bonded and two peas in a pod and therefore I will not separate them as they need each other. They are good at taking flea tablets and worming solution in food but this can given them an unsteady tummy but usually is for a short 12 hour period while their body processes the meds. They are both really good at using their scratch post and I’ve never really had an issue with scratching furniture which if they go to I correct with a sound and they’ll go to their scratch post. They are very intelligent girls. They also need neutering as they have started seasons but my vets wait time is soo long but due to them being malnourished when younger they couldn’t have it done sooner. They both eat food in gravy as this seems to keep their tummies settled and the only food they’ve seemed to gain a healthy weight from. They drink from running water but aren’t big drinkers hence the food choice too. They haven’t really shown any interest in going outdoors (which was ideal as they were indoor cats) but they often sit and enjoy the breeze from the windows and love the sun. They will come with: -all their litter trays -any meds I have -food I have -all there toys and hides (these are important places to the girls so I wouldn’t let them go without all their favourite items) -scratch post Plus anything I have that is also theirs £100 for both
