Some dogs have beautiful coloured eyes with some breeds being more well known than others. There are breeds with amber coloured eyes and then there are some dogs that boast having two different coloured ones. Some breeds not only have exceptionally beautiful eyes, but their coats too make them stand out in the crowd adding to their striking looks. Below are just three of the breeds that boast unusual coloured eyes.
The Australian Shepherd is an extremely striking looking dog and one that actually hails from Spain and not Australia at all. Often called "the little blue dog", they are nicely put together and have lovely coloured eyes. Over the years, Australian Shepherds have found their way into the hearts and homes of people all over the world and it's not only because of their charming looks. Aussies are renowned for their intelligence and their kind, loyal natures. They're a nice size too, with males being slightly larger and heavier than their female counterparts weighing in a 23 to 29 kg and standing at anything between 51 to 58 cm.
But it's an Australian Shepherd's eyes that are quite extraordinary, they are a beautiful almond shape and can be blue, amber or brown in colour with some dogs having flecks or marbling in their eyes. The colour of an Aussie's eyes typically ties in with the colour of their coat with brown dogs having brown flecked or marbled eyes, but these lovely looking dogs can also have two different coloured eyes too. The Australian Shepherd is best suited to people familiar with the breed and who have lots of time to spend in the great outdoors with a loyal and energetic canine companion at their side.
One of the most recognised breeds in the world, thanks to the film the 101 Dalmatians, these handsome, elegant dogs have remained a popular family pet with people the world over for decades. Their nickname is "Firehouse Dogs" because Dalmatians always accompanied horse-drawn fire engines back in the day, but they also used to run along carriages so they are often referred to as carriage dogs too. They are an ideal size being not too small or too large with males being anything from 58 to 61 cm at the wither with females being slightly shorter. Males can weigh in at around 23 to 25 kg and again their female counterparts tend to be slightly lighter.
Dalmatians are handsome dogs with superb spotted coats, some dogs having a lot more spots than others. A Dalmatian can have quite extraordinary eyes with some dogs having striking blue ones. Whether it's eye or both when combined to their spotted coats having blue eyes really makes a Dalmatian stand out in a crowd. Anyone looking for an energetic yet calm canine companion would not go far wrong than choosing to share their homes with one of these lovely dogs. For decades, the Dalmatian has proved to be a great companion and family pet that enjoys being around the people they love.
Siberian Huskies are among some of the most striking looking dogs on the planet with their lush coats and their beautiful, intense eyes. It is hardly surprising that over the years, these handsome dogs have found their way into the hearts and homes of people all over the world because not only are their striking to look at, but they are also known to be great companions and family pets especially when puppies have been well socialised from a young enough age. They are not overly large with males standing at anything between 53 to 61 cm at the wither with their female counterparts being a little shorter. Males can weigh in at between 20 to 27 kg and female that much lighter at 16 to 23 kg.
Although nicely put together, it's the Siberian Husky's eyes that are exceptionally beautiful being almond in shape and they can be any shade of blue although they can also have brown eyes. With this said, some Siberian Huskies have different coloured eyes with one being blue and the other brown which really makes them stand out in the crowd. Siberian Huskies do make great family pets, but they are best suited to people familiar with the breed and their particular needs. As such they are not the best choice for novice owners because a Siberian Husky is much happier when they know their place in the pack and who is the alpha dog.
With some dogs like the Dalmatian, blue coloured eyes can sometimes be linked to deafness, so its always best to make sure that any dog or puppy you are looking at has been BAER tested for deafness.
