The breed originated in Germany as drover dogs, which is reflected in their sturdy, muscular build. Despite their formidable appearance, Rottweilers are generally good-natured and fiercely loyal. In family settings, they make protective companions and gentle playmates, if properly socialized and trained. They do not come in size variations, but adult males can weigh up to 135 pounds, and females up to 100 pounds.
